Birthday scare
Tina woke up with excitement. It was her birthday. She was even more excited because it was her 18th birthday, and the family decided that there would be a celebration. It would be a relatively small celebration in their house with some friends and family members invited.
Tina jumped up from the bed, eager to begin preparations for her birthday party. She made sure to wake everyone else in the house. She went to the door of her parents’ room and shouted,
“Mom, Dad, it is morning already. Time to get up. We have a birthday party to prepare for”.
Next, she barged into her older brother’s room to wake him up.
“Time to wake up Jeremy” she said as she tried to pull him from the bed.
But a reluctant Jeremy was still too sleepy to comply.
Tina decided to take things up a notch. She put on the sound system and began playing loud music.
“That ought to wake them up” she said.
It worked. Within minutes, her parents and brother came out to join her in the living room.
“Alright, alright, you’ve succeeded. We’re up now” Jeremy said.
“Yes, and it’s time to prepare for my party!” Tina replied.
“Happy birthday my dear” her mom said as she drew her in for a hug.
“I can’t believe my daughter is now a full grown woman. I still remember changing your diapers like it was yesterday” her dad said as they all laughed.
“Happy birthday little sister” Jeremy said.
“Thank you all” Tina replied.
“Now let’s get started on the party preparations. Hope you all remember your roles?” Tina’s mom asked but was met with silence.
“Tina and I are going to prepare the food. Jeremy, you will get the cake and drinks. Honey, your job is to do the decorations and handle the music. Is it clear to everyone?” her mom said.
“Yes!” They all replied swiftly and in unison.
By noon, the sweet aroma of amazing food filled the house thanks to Tina and her mum. Her dad did a good job with the decorations. He was getting old but he still seemed like he had the strength of a teenager, to the delight of her mum.
Her dad was in the process of getting things ready for the music when Jeremy walked in with the cake. It was a really beautiful cake. He also had the drinks available. Tina was really happy that her family members worked hard to make sure her party that night would turn out perfect.
By evening, the guests started arriving. Tina was already beautifully dressed in her charming blue velvet gown that sparkled. She was indeed the center of attraction at the party. Eventually, all the guests had arrived and the party went into full swing.
Everyone, especially Tina, was having a lot of fun. It was the perfect birthday so far. Eventually it was time to cut the cake, so Tina went to the kitchen to get the cake. On getting there, she could hear some noise, and before she knew it, she saw a mouse on top of the cake, which ran off on seeing her. It had already eaten parts of the cake. Tina screamed. She was scared of the mouse, but she was more shocked that her beautiful cake had been ruined by the mouse.
Her parents and brother rushed into the kitchen on hearing her scream.
“What’s the matter dear?” her father asked.
“I just saw a mouse on the cake, and it has even eaten parts of the cake” Tina said with a sad face.
“This is bad. We have 2 problems on our hands. We have to get a new cake and we have a loose mouse in the house” her mum said.
“Maybe we can still salvage the situation. I can quickly go and get another cake while you try and stall the cake-cutting part of the party” Jeremy said.
“That’s a good plan. In the meantime, I will try to catch that mouse with traps. Tina, go with your mum to entertain the guests” her dad said.
Jeremy stormed off that night to get a replacement cake. Their father set traps in the kitchen for the mouse. Within 15 minutes, Jeremy arrived with a cake.
“Great, you’re here. Let’s get to cutting the cake” his mum said. The celebrant cut her cake and the celebration went on fine.
The traps set by Tina’s dad eventually caught the mouse, and they didn’t have to worry about a mouse running around the house filled with guests.
When the party was over, Tina sat on the chair with her brother next to her,
“I’m so glad the party wasn’t ruined. We’ve never had a mouse in the house before. I wonder how one got in tonight of all nights.” Tina said.
“I guess we’ll never know, but it’s something we have to make sure never happens again. The good thing is that we solved the problem as a family and tonight was perfect as planned.” Jeremy said.
“Thanks for all you did today Jeremy” Tina said.
“You’re welcome dear sister” Jeremy replied.
Awww this was such a fun read. I loved how excited Tina was from the start - totally relateable birthday energy. And the mouse twist? Wild.
Glad the family pulled together to have a nice day. Definitely a birthday to remember.
I wonder how Tina would've felt if there was no way to replace the cake. Imagine seeing a mouse on my birthday, I'll definitely panic and scream😂
The mouse wanted to ruins Tina's day but it did not succeed. Tina's parents and the siblings did very well by making Tina happy on her birthday. Thank you for sharing. Nicely written.
