How My Skills in Baking and Event Planning Kept Me Going in School
Every one of has the experience that school life can be very challenging, especially when you are facing both academic and financial struggles. For me, there were moments I almost gave up. One of my toughest periods was during a particular level when I had to face the most difficult course in my department that was during my level 3 No matter how hard I tried, I kept struggling to understand it, and I was on the edge of carrying it over. That alone was enough to make me feel discouraged.
But despite these challenges, there was something that kept me going my skills and my love in baking and event planning. Baking has always been a passion of mine, and I realized I could use it not only to make some income but also to build connections. I baked for different school events, from birthdays to departmental programs, and even for special occasions organized by the Students’ Union Government (SUG).
Planning events was another skill that kept me active and relevant on campus. I must say it really awaken me. I was often called to help organize programs, and through that, I got the opportunity to meet and work closely with the SUG executives and some of the top students in my school. These interactions inspired me a lot because being around such people gave me the motivation to push harder in my academics because I don't want to jeopardize my reputation.
Apart from the financial relief that came from these skills, they also gave me a sense of purpose. Every cake I baked and every event I planned reminded me that I had something valuable to offer. It made me believe that even though things were tough, I still had a way forward.
Looking back, I am grateful I didn’t give up. My baking and event planning skills were not just hobbies they were tools that helped me to survive, connect, and grow during my time in school. They taught me that sometimes, the talents we have can be the very reason we keep moving, even in the face of challenges.
