Starts With The Record

Your worst enemy is self. If the characteristics of Antichrist are still ruling in your mind, in your body, All right. Are we tracking so far? I hope so.

All right, so David 4 starts with the record of how Satan worked through pagan Rome to destroy the seed. Christ, who it was prophesied would crush his head, referring to Genesis 3.15. It then flashes back to the war that began in heaven. Next, it describes how Satan worked through papal Rome to persecute the seed of Christ, the church, during its first reign of 460 years.
Next, the chapter describes Satan working through pagan Rome and crucifying Christ. Do you see what I mean? You can't take it chronological. You just have to realize that John is focusing on Rome in its different phases who made war against Christ, literally, or against Christ's church.
It's not in chronological order. All right, so why? Next, it returns to Satan attacking the church through papal Rome during the 460 years. So that's found in 4.6, and it's also found in 4.4. Why is it there two times? Why the emphasis on the 460 years, and why is it brought up again here in verse 14? Why? Because the persecution of the saints and the suppression of the scriptures during the dark ages, during this 460 years, is going to be repeated when the wound is healed.

So we can understand and expect what's going to be taking place in the healing of the wound if we look back in history and see what the church did through its first reign where it received a deadly wound. And then we're told in David 13 that wound is healed, and it will resume what it did during the first reign. Is that making sense to you? I surely hope so.
