It's been three weeks now without the riverine community having access to their water. Many aquatic lives were also affected. They have harboured this feeling for years now after the authorities decided to pass the oil pipelines across their water.

Following series of oil theft and pipeline breakages, the government gave approval for the oil company to rechannel their pipelines from the mainland to the swampy and waterways. According to them this will make the tracking of the pipes to be much easier and also taking it away from the purview of the people.

But the authorities did not take into consideration the hazards this singular action may lead to. And the fears of the community had just played out. The vandals also devised a means and tampered with the pipeline, cutting greater part of it and sucking the oil therefrom and when they had finished their illegal activity, they left the pipeline uncovered thereby allowing massive oil to gush out and spill into the waters killing many aquatic plants and animals.

In the long run, the community can no longer use their water. People cannot fish or do anything with the water and the slow pace of the cleanup worsened their situation. The water pollution was massive. The government had to call for international assistance so as to clean up the waterways as the leakage was massive.
