Five Minute Freewrite: Step Back
The race was a tight one. Anne and Julia ran faster than the rest of the girls. They were both chasing the good medal to enhance the positions of their House on the medal table. Although Anne's House was slightly above Julia's with one medal in their collection - a silver medal. So the 100 metres dash was a good opportunity to extend their leads over the rest of the pack.
But something funny happened during the buildup for the race. It appeared that Anne had ran in a wrong lane to give a gap to the rest of the squad.
Even though she appeared to have come tops with Julia trailing behind with few inches the officials were put on the alert for this great unsportsmanlike behaviour. So when Anne came forward to pick up the medal she was asked to step back, allowing Julia to move forward and was subsequently recognized as the rightful first place finisher.
