Five Minute Freewrite: Hierarchy Of Losers

Jane loves basketball and so when she got the chance to attend high school she joined her school basketball team. The coaching staff were excellent as they tried their best to impact the basic rudimentary knowledge of playing the slam dunk game to all freshers. However, some players were not even equal to the task. Those who could make it were drafted into the main school team for inter school competitions.

Jane was fortunate to be among the ones chosen to be part of the school 🏀 team. She cherished it so much that she told herself that she'll do her best and bring laurels for her school. She took time to run the documentaries of past winners of the inter-school basketball competitions and her school was nowhere to be found. Rather, they were graded as 'runners up' on three good occasions, almost simultaneously for three editions. Sadly too Jane's school was named alongside others in the hierarchy of losers chart!

Jane reasoned that all these must end with her involvement now in the school basketball 🏀 team. As a point guard, she knows she'll be expected to be the primary ball handler and play initiator. That's an enormous role!

As the year's inter-school basketball 🏀 games began Jane was called into action and she played her roles very well. Thus, she was responsible for setting up the offensive plays and distributes the ball to teammates. This ensures that they scaled through the group phase of the competition as table toppers.

At the knockout phase her school cruised to victory with ease and birthed at the semifinals where they whitewashed their opponent with a much wider margin.

Then at the finals, Jane's team broke the jinx and emerged winners, albeit a slim victory over the reigning champions. But that was all they needed.

At that point Jane was happy that her dreams of wiping away that ugly tag of her school basketball 🏀 team being among the "hierarchy of losers".

At the cup presentation ceremony, Jane was hailed as the "floor general", a name that almost took her real name throughout her days in the high school.
