Five Minute Freewrite: Credibility

The ruling JPK party has been in power for over the decades. They came to power after the then ruling party, the BZM UNITED fielded an ineligible candidate so after the election the constitutional court declared the primaries that gave him the party flag lacks credibility. That paved way for the JPK candidate who came second to be returned as elected President.

Recently, there have been a similar experience playing out with the JPK party too. As the general election draws closer there are intrigues and political maneuvering to foist an unpopular candidate on the party as their flag bearer.

There is a standing electoral umpire rule that for a candidate to stand for an election he or she must have resided within the area for not less than six months preceding the election year.

Now the son of the current President wants to contest and probably succeed the father. He has been living in a foreign land ever since he was born. The JPK has thrown caution to the wind and wants to field him like that.

They have lost sight of history. That was exactly what happened to BZM UNITED and they came to power.
