Justice of a Fall

The touch of reality in fictional works will always appeal to me. I like to put myself in the protagonists' shoes, knowing that what they experience could happen to me in my own life.
I believe it serves as a kind of lesson on what to do—or not to do—in similar situations.
Anatomy of a Fall is that kind of film. The beginning is a bit slow, and because of that, I almost stopped watching. But since it was recommended by a friend—who almost always suggests great movies—I decided to give it a chance.
As the minutes go by, we see how the protagonist’s situation becomes increasingly intense, filled with tough moments. To the point where she’s accused and put on trial without concrete evidence.
Of course, I won’t tell you what the alleged crime is—so you’ll feel encouraged to watch it. The thing is, the judicial system wants her convicted, no matter what.
Here, there are no special effects, sudden plot twists, or any other sensational elements typical of Hollywood films. I can’t say whether the legal aspects are true to reality, since I know nothing about the society where the film takes place.
What I can say is that I got the impression they wanted to gift us an image as close to reality as possible. As for the music—the music is almost non-existent.
And all of this is unusual, because it’s rare to find a film where music doesn’t help express what the directors want to convey to the audience.
The truth is, the few times incidental music does appear, it comes from the hands of one of the characters, with bitter notes that reflect the protagonist’s feeling of persecution.
Another thing I loved was the actors’ skill in switching between French and English, and vice versa. And in the case of the protagonist—who is German, by the way—they came up with a smart solution to avoid forcing her French too much.
This is something you almost never see in films in general. That’s why I love this kind of cinema: because what seems difficult becomes easy by applying the rules we live by in our daily lives.
Anatomy of a Fall is, for me, an 8/10.
Thank you very much.
