Esta será la primera de 2 partes que tendrá esta historia.

Han sido días en los que no hemos parado. Ayer culminó la 23.ª Conferencia Internacional de Cultura Africana y Afroamericana. Un evento organizado por La Casa del África de Santiago de Cuba.

Allí me convertí en el fotógrafo de mi esposa. Me encantan las fotos en las que no se posa, pues son más fieles a la energía del momento. Por tanto, traté de captarla en varios lugares sin previo aviso.

La lluvia obligó a que todo marchara lo más rápido posible. Al final, y con las primeras gotas sobre nuestras cabezas, bailamos al ritmo de la Conga de los Hoyos, una banda tradicional de Santiago de Cuba.

También compartí con dos de sus compañeros de la Universidad(uno graduado junto con ella y otro que aún es estudiante). Debido a que se trataba de varios escenarios al mismo tiempo, ella les pidió que le sirvieran como apoyo en las diferentes comisiones.

It has been a non-stop few days. Yesterday was the culmination of the 23rd International Conference on African and Afro-American Culture. An event organized by La Casa del Africa in Santiago de Cuba.

There I became my wife's photographer. I love non-posed photos because they are more faithful to the energy of the moment. So, I tried to capture her in several places without notice.

The rain forced everything to go as fast as possible. At the end, and with the first drops on our heads, we danced to the rhythm of the Conga de los Hoyos, a traditional band from Santiago de Cuba.

I also shared with two of her university classmates (one who graduated with her and one who is still a student). Because it was several stages at the same time, she asked them to serve as support in the different commissions.

Mi esposa forma parte de la plantilla de La Casa del África desde hace algunos meses. Al ser la traductora oficial, el trabajo para ella fue arduo antes y después del evento. Sus amigos fueron de gran ayuda, pero aun así fue extenuante

Ella me contó varias anécdotas graciosas de las que fue testigo. En sus palabras había mucha felicidad. Al ser su primera vez en un evento de este tipo, podemos decir que le fue muy bien.

Tuvo cosas buenas y malas, pero de todas aprendió un poquito. Yo quise ir a varias de las conferencias expuestas, pero por razones de trabajo solo puede asistir a la gala de clausura.

Fue suficiente para ver a mi esposa trabajar. Al ver sus habilidades para la traducción e interpretación (que no es lo mismo), me quedé con las mejores sensaciones.

My wife has been part of the staff of La Casa del África for a few months now. Being the official translator, it was hard work for her before and after the event. Her friends were a great help, but it was still exhausting.

She told me several funny anecdotes that she witnessed. There was a lot of happiness in her words. Being her first time at such an event, we can say that it went very well.

He had good and bad things, but he learned a little bit from all of them. I wanted to go to several of the conferences, but for work reasons I could only attend the closing gala.

It was enough to see my wife at work. Seeing her translation and interpreting skills (which is not the same thing), I was left with the best feelings.

Qué orgullo saber que mi “jeva” es buena en lo que hace. Había visto sus habilidades en otras ocasiones, pero siempre con grupos pequeños de personas y por un tiempo limitado.

Este evento fue un paso mayor. Una victoria para nuestro joven matrimonio. Hemos madurado en todo el proceso: ella en su profesión, yo como el apoyo doméstico.

What a pride to know that my "jeva" is good at what she does. I had seen her skills on other occasions, but always with small groups of people and for a limited time.

This event was a bigger step. A victory for our young married couple. We have matured throughout the process: her in her profession, me as the domestic support.

Hoy se siente un pequeño vacío. Las tensiones se acabaron por ahora. Creo que nos merecemos unas vacaciones. Bueno, yo sí debo seguir trabajando, pero al menos tenemos tiempo para estar juntos otra vez.

Today a small vacuum is felt. The tensions are over for now. I think we deserve a vacation. Well, I do have to keep working, but at least we have time to be together again.
