Black Elderflower Fritters // Beignets de fleurs de sureau noir [EN/FR]

Hello friends and food lovers! I hope you're all doing well. đ
For the past few days, @genesisledger has been telling me that you can eat black elderflowers. And since we have quite a few in our garden and it's blooming time, we thought we'd give them a try!
We started by tasting them like this, just picked them and rinsed them under water, then we added the little flowers to a strawberry and rhubarb tart... @genesisledger loved it. It has a hint of lychee đ„.
Personally, I liked it a little less. But I don't like lychees either, so that makes sense đ€Ł
Anyway, we found a recipe for elderflower fritters, so we gave it a try! And it's honestly not bad đ
Here's the recipe for about twenty elderflower fritters đ
Ingredients

- About twenty black elderflowers;
- 100 grams of flour;
- 2 tablespoons of cornstarch;
- 2 eggs;
- 1 teaspoon of baking powder;
- 25 cl of water;
- 1 pinch of salt;
- Oil for frying.
Preparation steps
We started by picking elderflowers in our garden. đž
Then, I prepared the fritter batter! To do this, I started by adding the flour to a bowl:

Then, I added the baking powder:

The cornstarch:

The 2 eggs:

And I mixed:

Then, I added the water, and here's the result after mixing:

If you want a fluffier, less dense batter, you can replace the still water with sparkling water.
Anyway, after making the batter, I shook the flowers and quickly ran them under water.
Next, I heated some oil in a saucepan.
Next, I dipped the first flower in the batter and then dipped it in the hot oil. Frying is quite quick; in 1 minute, the elderflower fritter is ready!

I then drained it on paper towels and added a little sugar.
And here's the result:

It tastes mostly like donut batter, and it's quite good. And I think it's quite fun to eat flowers from your own garden. đ€Ł
I don't think you should eat too much, otherwise you can quickly get a stomach ache from the fried food. đ€Ł It was a good experience.
Anyway, now it's your turn to try it!
See you soon,
Johanna

- Une vingtaine de fleurs de sureau noir ;
- 100 grammes de farine ;
- 2 cuillÚres à soupe de fécule de maïs ;
- 2 oeufs ;
- 1 cuillÚre à café de levure chimique ;
- 25 cl dâeau ;
- 1 pincée de sel ;

Johanna

This looks interesting and I love the cruchy on every bite.
Yes, it's quite surprising!

I love how honest you were about your taste preferences đ and how adventurous you and @genesisledger have been with elderflowers. From garden to tart to fritters, itâs like a floral food journey! đ The recipe is simple and inviting, and the tip about sparkling water for a lighter batter is perfect for me. Thank you for sharing this edible flower adventure.
Hahaha, that's very kind! It's true that we love trying new recipes and even eating edible flowers, even if it's quite surprising. đ€Ł I'm so glad you liked this recipe, thank you for your comment đ
