The Science Of Problem-Solving: Searching For Solutions In The Right Place
For every problem we face, someone else has faced and found the solutions to them.
What if I told you that that problem that is killing you right now that the solution to that problem is somewhere on this Earth, that you haven't just found it yet? Yes, the solution is probably in a book written by someone or it is in the mind of somebody who you probably meet everyday.
This statement is true to the letter. There are people who've been in this world before us and have had the same experiences we are having. They faced the same troubles we are facing. Some of them succumbed to the troubles and some triumped. And some of those that triumped has left records of how they triumphed over the adversities.
Suffering In Silence
I've heard of stories of people who were under the weight of a particular problem until they either met someone or read a book that gave them advice that helped them defeat that problem.
Sometimes the solution to our problems may be close to us but we don't notice them and we suffer in silence.
Finding Solutions
We should make a deliberate search for solutions to our problems. We should not wait until the solutions find us, we may not be alive up till then.
And one of the best place to find solutions is from people who've encountered the same problem we have and overcame them.
Let me explain. Take for example someone is having marital problems. There are people who've had same problems and found answers, like relationship counselors with many years experience. Or books written by people with lots of experience about marriage. If we get advice from these people or their books it's very likely they will give us the solution to our marital problems.
Or person struggling in business. You can approach people in the same line of business who are already thriving. It's very likely they will have pieces of advice for you that can turn around your business. Or you can read business related books for ideas.
This is applicable to any aspect of life in which we are experiencing problems. Finances, business, profession, relationships, etc.
Reading Is The Easiest Way
Pick an aspect of your life that is problematic. Then pick good books in the aspect, written by experts and experienced people and read. There's a high chance you will get ideas from those books that you can apply to solve those problems.
As a student that wants to bag first class honors in the higher institution, there's no harm in approaching one or two people who've already achieved first class honors in the university and ask for their advice. There are things they did deliberately that helped them bag first class honors and if they tell you and you apply the rules, then you can achieve the same they did.
Don't Get The Wrong Ideas
You can also get the wrong ideas on how to solve your problems, thereby compounding instead of solving them. To prevent this, make sure that any person you are taking advice from is an expert and has enough experience in that area of life. There should be visible signs that he is succeeding in that area before you go to him to help you succeed too. Concerning books, be picky too. Don't just read any book, some offer the wrong ways to solve problems. Know the reputation of the author of the book before you read their book.
Conclusion
Don't wait for ideas on how to solve your problems to find you by mistake. Make efforts and find those ideas. And to do that listen to people who've Encountered and overcome that kind of problem in the past. Either you approach them directly for advice or you read their books, listen to their tapes and podcasts, attend their seminars, etc.
