A Heavenly Delight At Midnight

The fastest meal to make at midnight?

This is this week's prompt and it sounds fun. Night owls are known for late-night eating, especially while they binge watch movies or read books. I do that myself and I enjoy it a lot.

I am a person who prefers healthy, really nutritious food to their junk counterparts, no matter how good the junk taste, so I might reframe the question thus:

What's the fastest and most nutritious meal to make at midnight?

I enjoy late-night eating so much that no amount of preaching about the harmful effects of late-night eating will tear me from this habit. I've known the joy of munching on some pleasant edibles while being thrilled by an action-packed movie, and also enjoying the quiet of the midnight. It just feels divine.

Well, that's not entirely true. I mean, I don't engage in late-night eating solely because I enjoy it, but also because it's what my drugs require. You see, I'm on some sort of antidepressants, and other drugs, and they make me overeat. And I take the drugs at night. So it's often normal for me to feel hungry two hours after eating dinner. When that happens, I simply stroll to the kitchen and prepare whatever food I find ready.

And What Is The Fastest Food I Prepare, The One That's Quick To Make, Yet Tastes Great? Well...

...I usually have fufu and some soup, or rice and fish for dinner most times, but when I suddenly find myself besieged by hunger in the middle of the night, I usually turn to the king of crops to fill belly.

Yam. That's what we call the king of crops in my tribe. When I go hungry in the night there's usually a few tubers lying around, easy to find. I go for one of them. They are usually large tubers. My father cultivates all our yams. You see, he's a practicing lawyer of almost two decades, and a retired civil servant, but he's also an industrious farmer. He finds time in between his professional endeavors to tend to his large farm, with hired help of course. So he's known for producing large tubers of yam. And he loves eating them too. So do I, especially at midnight.

Yam Is A Surprisingly Easy Food To Prepare, For Those Who Are Not So Familiar With It…

...you just peel it, remove the brown, earthy back with a knife, and then cut it into small or medium-sized or large pieces, depending on which you prefer. You then wash the yam pieces, pour in enough water and begin to cook. And it's always done in less than 10 or 15 minutes.

Sorry To Burst Your Bubble, Noodle Lovers, But Yam Is More Tasty And Far More Nutritious….

…especially if you make a sauce of palm oil, pepper, onions, salt to go with it. It has an irresistible taste, and I can recall it at the back of my mind as I write, and it's making my water almost water. There are so many delicious recipes for this tasty crop. You can find them online.

So on many midnights, I've had to make this heavenly meal for myself to get rid of biting hunger. While I eat, my eyes are glued to my smartphone's screen or the tv screen. Food and entertainment is a heavenly combination.

Image is mine.

Thanks for reading.

PS: I'll be having fufu tonight. I've already had yam porridge for dinner and have taken my drugs. I'll start on my delicious plate of food an hour or so after 12am. 11:13pm now.
