Hello all Hivians and good people of the Gems community. Most of us may not be aware of some major happenings or events around the globe that took place on this day many years ago. I will therefore take us round the globe in a giffey to have a look at some of those historical events that took place on this day, tuesday the 14/10/2024 in history.

We begin today from China. Do you know that on this day in 2003, China became the third country to launch a crewed spacecraft; Yang Liwei piloted Shenzhou 5, which orbited Earth 14 times during its 21-hour trip.

From China, we move over to Burkina Faso. Do you also know that on this day in 1987, a military coup in the West African country of Burkina Faso overthrew Head of State Thomas Sankara, killing him and eight others.

From Burkina Faso we move over to the world of Nobel Peace Prize. Now, on this day in 1993, South Africans Nelson Mandela and F.W. de Klerk were awarded the Nobel Peace Prize "for their work for the peaceful termination of the apartheid regime, and for laying the foundations for a new democratic South Africa."

From the world of Nobel Peace Prize, we move over to Somalia. Do you know that on this day in 1969, President Cabdirashiid Cali Shermaʾarke (Abdirashid Ali Shermarke) of Somalia was assassinated.

From Somalia, we move over to India. Now, on this day in 1931, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, an Indian scientist and politician who contributed significantly to the development of India's missile and nuclear weapons programme was born in Rameswaram, India. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam was India's President from 2002 until 2007.

Gentlemen, we'll round off our today's look in from Nigeria. Do you know that on this day in 1938, Fela Kuti, a Nigerian musician and activist who combined traditional Yoruba music with American blues, jazz, and funk to create the modern music genre known as Afro-beat was born in Abeokuta, Nigeria.
