Worldbuilding Weekend Prompt #121 - Sports Fans
Welcome to the next in an ongoing series of writing prompts in the Worldbuilding community !
I'm aiming to post one of these each Sunday. They aren't a replacement for the excellent daily prompts from @worldbuilding they're just an extra opportunity if you have a writing itch you want to scratch. 😀

The prompt this week is - Sports Fans
What are the most popular public entertainments in your setting ? Public sports and other entertainments have always had their fans and fan clubs. Gladiatorial contests in Rome were political events that the sponsors used to gain popular support. In Byzantium it went further; chariot racing teams were known by their colour, and the Blues and Greens were frequently very boisterous in their support (okay, riotous.... just look up the Nika riots, where they tried to depose the emperor and 30,000 are reckoned to have died. In modern times, football hooliganism has often been an issue, and fan clubs have on occasion wielded political power or led revolutions.
Tell me a story of fan clubs in your setting ! What sport do they follow ? Are the fans rivals, and how do they express their rivalry ? Do they have favourite songs or slogans ? What could cause rival fan clubs to unite against the government, foreign fan clubs or invading armies ?
Just to add a bit of spice to things, the two entries I most like (and are linked in comments to this post, so I can find them !) that are posted by midnight (GMT) next Saturday will each get a prize of one Hive SBI.
This link will take you to the FAQ where you can read more about Hive SBI - it's a project I thoroughly support because it gives both the donor and winner a steady trickle of passive income paid out in the form of upvotes on posts.
