Chester's First Garden Exploration

avatar

If you saw my recent post HERE you'll know that we adopted another fur baby to keep Duncan cat company. His name is Chester, and now he's been with us for a little while, it was time to let him out to explore the garden.

Poor little man was very nervous at first - I'm not sure if he'd ever been outdoors before, so he spent a while sitting in the kitchen doorway wondering if he'd get in trouble for going out.

After while, he pottered out onto the patio and went around sniffing everything.

He still wasn't sure about it all, so he moved around only when he thought we weren't watching, scurrying from place to place.

He's already discovered he likes hiding in all the nooks and crannies in the garden. His favourites are behind the cherry tree, and inside the fruit cage (there's a gap at the back he can just fit through).

The photo below looks like it's just Duncan, but if you look carefully you can see Chester hiding inside. It's like Duncan is saying "Just visiting..."

Once Duncan came out, it was wonderfully cute to watch the two of them together. Duncan stuck with Chester, but always at enough of a distance that Chester knew someone had his back without feeling crowded.

Chester has already discovered how interesting the birds that live in the trees and bushes around the garden are.....

The one below is the two of them inspecting the vegetable garden.

They finally wandered down to the end of the garden, just to complete their exploration. Chester fell in the pond because he thought the pond weed covering it was just another type of lawn. We didn't get a photo, it all happened so quickly, but he rapidly scrambled out and actually wasn't too concerned about getting wet.

Since this trip out at the weekend, Chester has wanted to go out into the garden at all hours of day and night, but we're only letting him out in the day until he learns how to use the cat flap. He's definitely having a good time, and enjoying the summer weather that has finally arrived in the UK !

Thank you ! They are wonderful - really good together, even if they do work as a team to persuade my wife and I that each of us isn't feeding them enough......

Thank you ! We're amazed bow well they're getting on - they've had a couple of play-fights without claws, but none of the really rough stuff that cats do if they are trying to work out who is boss. I think they are happy being equals, with each of them teaching the other what they know 😀

Thank you ! He's loving it, I think it's completely new to him, so he's having fun just watching everything that happens and learning about the outside world. Most of his chonkiness is just fur (or so he tells me...), but we're having to work hard to not over-chonkify him, he loves his food 😆
