Inquisitor Markus gave the wooden stake one last savage hammer-blow before rising from the floor . The corpse at his feet twitched a little, but that was all.

"We're done here. Let's go," he said grimly, gesturing for his companion to follow him.

Hunter Samuelson looked at his senior officer quizzically. "What ? We can't just leave him here. How are we going to bury him? He may be a vampire, but he was human once."

"That's not a Him, it's an It. Let it bleed. Every last drop of stolen blood. It's not human any more. Don't start thinking that vampires are people. They're not. They are monsters, to be hunted down and exterminated like the vermin they are."

Markus opened the door to the former chapel that had been deconsecrated and turned into a bookshop. Pulling a piece of chalk from his pocket, he scrawled on the door. 'Vampire. Do Not Enter. By order of the Inquisition."

With a nod, he waited until Samuelson left the building, then closed the door and hammered half a dozen nails through it into the frame to seal it up. His hammer had mundane uses as well as vampire-slaying ones.

Haha this is cool, can't beat a good vampire story.

It's a short piece, but it's almost benefial because from reading it you're almost aware of a larger story and it doesn't feel disjointed from the larger narrative at play.

Really cool, well done!

Thank you ! Yes - although it's a single episode, it draws on the background from a vampire-themed online RPG I played for a few years. The game was fairly straightforward, but the players ended up creating a whole long-form text roleplaying structure that made it fascinating to be a part of.
