A Sublime Beautiful Sunday
Today I invite you to visit a castle located above the town of Thun in the canton of Bern, Switzerland. The huge donjon was built around 1190 by Duke Berthold V of Zähringen. From the towers at the top you can enjoy the impressive view of the town, lake and Alpine scenery. Of course you have to walk up a bit, there are many steps up to the top. Lake Thun is around 217 m deep, a fjord lake in the Bernese Highlands on the northern edge of the Alps, beautiful places on the shores of the lake are Interlaken, Spiez and more.
At that time, there was only one room in the 14-meter-high tower, which is now called the Knights' Hall. An imposing ceremonial room in its day, it is now one of the best-preserved ceremonial rooms of the High Middle Ages. It is part of the historic castle museum, which shows the history of Thun over five different floors. I have visited for a long time before but not now.
From Thun railroad station or the Thun ship station, you can reach the castle in about 15 minutes by walking up the castle steps or the church steps at the town hall square.
You can finde many bridges in Thun, crossing the Aare river and connecting the old town with the Schoren district, a historic bridge with charm and picturesque views of the surrounding area.
Thanks for stopping by, have a great day!
