Top Leagues Sure Are Chaotic ~ Splinterlands X Social Media Challenge
Hello, gamers of Hive. I hope you all are doing well.
Today, I will share a battle that took me to the Gold I league. This battle has the culmination of strategy, carefully chosen monsters, and a high level summoner play. Combining these well-thoughout aspects got me a step closer to a higher tier. The rewards gave me a handful of gold foil units for Water, Nature, and Life.
Without further ado, let's begin!
Battle Conditions
The mana cap is 28 and there are 3 summoners to choose from: Fire, Nature, and Death.
Battle Rules:-
- Tis but scratches: All units have Cripple ability.
- Little League: You can only summon units and summoners that cost 4 mana or less.
- Reverse Speed: Units with the lowest speed attacks first and has the highest chance to evade attacks.
Keeping the mana cap, available summoners, and the battle rules in mind, I chose to get the summoner that would give me high level units with low mana cost and provide me high HP units since the little leagues is all about survival. Thus, I chose the death summoner
Battle Details
Let's start the deck deconstruction from my side:
Summoner: Thaddius Brood(Ability: Decrease in HP and Magic damage by 1 for all enemy units.
Tank: Xenith Monk(Ability: Heal).
Non-Attacker: Riftwing(Ability: FLying, Scavenger, Backfire).
Magic Attackers: Revealer(Ability: Stun), Life Sapper(Ability: Leech), Venari Bonesmith(Ability: Leech, Poison).
Melee Attacker: Uraeus(Ability: Sneak, Poison).
My strategy was to hit heavily him from the front and a little push from the back. That way, I could potentially hit his tank and the ranged attackers from the back. To do it effectively, I chose to get 2 attackers with poison ability. I got a high-speed non-attacker behind my tank that can self-heal as an insuance; to prolong my units behind to stay back and evade incoming attacks, respectively. I used Revealer in the hopes of getting his tank to miss a turn, and 2 leechers to increase HP per round should the units in front fall.
My overall damage per round is 12 with 4 HP increase. Should more units fall, Riftwing's HP would then increase.
Now, for the opposition's deck deconstruction:
Summoner: Thaddius Brood(Ability: Decrease in HP and Magic damage by 1 for all enemy units.
Tank: Crypt Beetle(Ability: Shield).
Melee Attacker: Shadow Snitch(Ability: Reach).
Non-Attacker: Riftwing(Ability: Flying, Scavenger).
Magic Attacker: Life Sapper(Ability: Leech).
Ranged Attackers: Weirding Warrior(Ability: Shatter), Soul Strangler(No Ability).
His strategy was to attack my units from the front. He used a tank and followed it up with a supporting melee attacker and then kept the same non-attacker as mine behind it. Then comes 1 leech attacker and 2 ranged attacker combo in the backlines. He wanted his non-attacker to soak up as much HP as possible before letting it come to the tank's position. That way, the rest of his units would do damage for more rounds while his tank would have a chance to evade attacks.
His overall damage per round is 8 with 1 Hp increase and should any unit fall, his Riftwing's HP increases from then on.
Major Events
The first unit to fall in the first third of the round was my tank and down goes my 2 HP increase per round.
The second unit to fall in the second third of the round was his tank. That way, both the non-attackers suckered in 2 HP increase.
In the final third of the round, his Strangler was smacked out of the game thanks to my Uraeus. This made a 4 v 3 situation with me in the advantageous spot.
In the second quarter of the round, his melee attacker fell leaving only 2 attackers on his side while I had 4 attackers. From here on, it was a battle of endurance. The first to be exhausted would lose.
In the third quarter of the round, his second ranged attacker fell making it a 1 v 4.
At the start of the round, his magic attacker fell while his non-attacker was on it's final moments.
Lastly, near the end of the round, his Riftwing fell thanks to my Uraeus.
Results
The crucial mistake on his part was that he fell for the most basic requirement of the battle, the presence of a high HP attacking unit. His average HP comes to 3 while mine was 4. Secondly, all of his units had lower average damage than me. That way, my survival chances increased more times since I had 2 units that would increase their HP and 2 that would inflict poison.
