Striking Life Down With Death ~ Splinterlands | Social Media Challenge
Hello, splinter-warriors. I hope you all are doing well.
Today, I will share a battle that brought me to the peak of the ratings in the last season, at a staggering 2700, where I went up against a player that had a good command over his summoners and had an arsenal of monsters that rivaled mine. This was where I witnessed a true clash of wills. Victory went to the better planner, of course.
Without further ado, let's begin!
Battle Conditions
The mana cap is 45, and there are 4 summoners to choose from: Nature, Life, Death, and Dragon.
Battle Rules:-
- Reverse Speed: Units with the slowest speed attack first and have the highest chance to evade attacks.
- Equalizer: The initial health of all units is equal to that of the unit on either team with the highest base health.
- Tis But Scratches: All units have Cripple Power.
Keeping the high mana cap, available summoners, and battle rules in mind, I decided to use the summoner that would give me an edge over my opposition with high-level monsters, potentially reducing his attacking prowess and HP. It is the death summoner.
Battle Details
Let's start the deck deconstruction from my side:
Summoner: Thaddius Brood(Ability: Decrease in HP and Magic damage by 1 for all enemy units)(Level 5)
Tank: Dumacke Orc(Ability: Shield).
Melee Attacker: Arachne Thug(Ability: Reach, Trample).
Magic Attackers: Revealer(Ability: Stun), venari Bonesmith(Ability: Life Leech, Poison), Kain Hace(Ability: Blast, Deflection Shield).
Ranged Attacker: Zyriel(Ability: Weapons Training, Life Leech, Divine Shield).
My strategy was to attack him head-on because all of his units would have the same HP, and there was no point in attacking him from all sides. That way, after I focus fire on 1 unit, I can eliminate 1 or 2 monsters after a round or 2. I used units with the lowest HP and speed but had defining abilities. My tank had a shield ability; the incoming melee damage would be reduced by half. I used 3 magic attackers, the first one stuns his tank, the second one leeches HP and causes a poison status resulting in a -2 HP after the end of the that round, and the third one would cause a blast damage of 2 to the unit behind the tank. Lastly, my ranged attacker had the life leech, divine shield ability, which made it possible to gain HP until it got pushed to the tank position while doing an insanely high damage.
My overall damage per round is 23, with a 3-HP increase.
Now for the opposition's turn.
Summoner: General Sloan(Ability: Increase in damage for all ally Ranged Attacker by 1)(Level 4 Gold Foil)
Tank: Silverblade Fighter(Ability: Flank, Void Armour).
Blocked Melee Attacker: Mana Warden(Ability: Shield Ward, Impede).
Magic Attackers: Janni Rebel(Ability: Flank, Inspire), Djinn Renova(Ability: Strengthen), Meriput Mossmender(Ability: Repair, Dodge).
Dual Attacker: Anachron Bolter(Ability: Headwinds).
His strategy was similar to mine. He also focused all of his attacking potential toward my tank and used units with defined abilities that strengthened his attacking power and increased his overall HP. He used 2 melee attackers and increased the damage by 2 thanks to their first magic attacker. Of these melee attackers, the one behind the tank was blocked, so he used the tank and Janni's flank ability to make him a melee attacker. His next magic attacker increased his overall HP by 6. The last magic attacker provided a shield repair to any unit with shields and had the dodge ability. Lastly, he used a dual attacker with the ability to reduce the incoming ranged attacks by 1 per attacker.
His overall damage per round is 18.
Major Events
At the start of the round, his damage was reduced by 3 permanently, thanks to my summoner's ability while he reduced my overall damage by 1 through his dual-attacker's ability.
Near the end quarter of the round, his tank kicked the bucket thanks to my Bonesmith.
My tank soon joined his near the end of the round, making it a 5 v 5.
At the start of the round, his second melee attacker got snuffed, thanks to my ranged attacker. Thus it was a 4 v 5 in my favour.
Near the end of the last quarter of the round, his first magic attacker was brought down thanks to Thug.
His second magic attacker was felled thanks to my ranged attacker.
At the end of the second third of the round, Thug finally fell, making the game even. With a 2 v 4 situation, it was not looking good for him.
Near the end of the round, his last magic attacker fell thanks to Bonesmith, making it a 1 v 4.
At the end of the round, the final hit was delivered by my Kain Hace.
Results
His units were very competent, and his deck construction was pitch-perfect. The way he used combos and synched his unit's abilities to maximise the output on the battle. Not to mention that he used 44 mana while I used 39 mana, and the HP increased; he lacked at the most basic level. He used monsters with a speed of 3, while only 1 unit had a speed of 1. That way, he lacked behind on the turns. So, his attacks came after most of my units had attacked, which made him lose more HP and risked losing more units to my attacks before he got the chance to attack me back. For this small error, he had lost. Otherwise, I assumed that I was going to lose this game.
