The New Social Trend: Convert Your Photo in Studio Ghibli Style
Welcome to another art post here in the community.
This week has been strange on Instagram. I've been seeing more and more people turning their photos into illustrations in the style of Studio Ghibli with the help of artificial intelligence. And honestly, I totally get this "craze."
The results of these images are simply incredible, in my opinion.
It looks like they took a lost scene from Spirited Away and placed you right in it.
But besides looking beautiful, why exactly has this become such a huge phenomenon?

Well, there are some very interesting reasons behind this trend.
The power of nostalgia?
If you grew up watching anything animated by this Studio, then you know that Ghibli films have a unique and captivating style due to their meticulous details. They manage to be colorful and vibrant without overdoing it, have expressive characters without looking exaggerated, and most importantly, they convey a magical atmosphere.
Now imagine being able to see yourself in that universe.
It's an instant nostalgia trigger. The feeling of seeing your own image with that soft linework and pastel tones that make any scene feel warm is almost like going back in time and reliving the first time you watched these films.
Everyone wants to be in the "TREND"

Another reason why this trend is exploding is that, let's be honest, the Ghibli version of anyone looks amazing. These AIs don’t just transform your face into the studio’s characteristic art style, they also add an extra touch of softness and harmony.
Take a look at the image shared in this section these are some very famous memes.
Unlike a beauty filter that just increases contrast and smooths skin, these artworks capture the essence of a person and transport them to a more beautiful world.
And let’s face it, everyone likes to see themselves looking cooler, right?
Until recently, if you wanted a drawing of yourself in this style, you would have to pay an illustrator or learn to draw (which is not exactly quick and can even lead to frustrating comparisons). Now, in just a few seconds, an AI can recreate your image with an impressive level of detail.
And the craziest part? These tools are improving every day.
At first, AI-generated art had some bizarre mistakes.
Really bizarre...
Misaligned eyes, deformed mouths, weird proportions. But today, the algorithms are so refined that some images look like real movie scenes.
The viral effect
None of this would have exploded without massive sharing. It takes just one person posting their Ghibli version for everyone else to want to try it too. The results are so stunning that they spread quickly, and before you know it, everyone is turning into anime characters.

Besides that, these images work perfectly on social media. They're eye-catching, visually appealing, and carry that touch of fantasy that always generates engagement. It’s not just another filter it’s a complete artistic transformation.
AI vs. Digital Artists?
Of course, this trend also brings up that old discussion about artificial intelligence and art.
Many people question whether this devalues the work of illustrators since AI can replicate styles effortlessly.
I understand this point, and honestly, this technology is still in a gray area.
But at the same time, I see it as democratizing access to art. Many people who would never have a professional illustration of themselves can now have something in this style.
Could this be a problem for artists? Maybe.
But it could also open doors to new forms of creation and experimentation.
If you love the Ghibli style, enjoy seeing your image in a more artistic way, or simply want to join the trend, I’d say go for it. The results are usually amazing, and it’s fun to imagine being part of an animated universe. On the other hand, if you prefer everything to be handmade and are skeptical about AI, I totally get that too.
But one thing is certain: this trend is going to stay strong for a long time.

And what about you? Have you turned yourself into a Ghibli character on Facebook, Instagram, or any other Web2 platform? If so, tell me how it turned out!
If not, I bet you’re a little curious now, aren’t you?

Good post bro, everywhere I look I see pictures of Ghibli and I'm going crazy to the point that I think I'm going to create my own too 🤣.
I think it's cool, although I'm a little afraid that the original artists won't like it
You know this trend really catches my attention, haha, but since I love drawing, I'll stick with digital art. On the other hand, I think this app isn't a bad idea for having fun with friends, don't you? I really liked your post. 🙏🌸
Thank you for your time. I think it's incredible too, but as I said above, some of the artists responsible for the original work don't like it
