How Buy Packs: Tutorials and Tips for Splinterlands Community

Hey guys, how’s it going?

For this week’s community challenge in Splinterlands, today I want to share a quick but very useful thought, especially for those who are just arriving in the Splinterlands universe and still feel a bit lost with this whole pack-buying thing. At first, it may seem confusing with blockchain, Hive-Engine, secondary market, SWAP.HIVE, and all that stuff, but in the end, it’s much easier than it looks. So relax, grab a coffee, and come with me I’ll show you the ropes.

First things first:

Splinterlands is one of those games where strategy, fun, and investment walk side by side. Card packs are an essential part of that. They come in different editions from time to time, and depending on demand, they can simply vanish like a limited-stock concert ticket.

But don’t worry, just because the official shop runs out doesn’t mean you’ll never see that pack again. That’s where the secondary market comes into play.

Why doesn’t everyone open their packs right away?

That’s something I used to wonder about at the beginning. I’d buy a pack and instantly want to rip it open in excitement, hoping for a gold card. But not everyone does that.

Some players buy just to hold them, waiting for the price to go up so they can sell later. And it works! It has already happened with older editions that today are worth way more than at launch.

Of course, there are exceptions. Like Chaos Legion, which is stuck and costs less than $0.50 each. In that case, waiting for it to appreciate has become a meme. 😂 But still, each edition has its own story.

Where to find the packs

To keep it short, here’s the deal: go to the Market inside the game and then to Other Items. Or, if you prefer the shortcut, here’s the direct link:

https://splinterlands.com/shop/all-packs

There you’ll find practically all previous packs, from the legendary ALPHA PACK up to the most recent, currently the REBELLION PACK.

And it’s not just packs you’ll also find other items from the Splinterlands ecosystem: SoulKeep game items, lands, titles, and very specific collectibles that attract attention from collectors.

How to pay?

This is the part that usually freezes beginners. But I’ll simplify: you can use DEC or Credits directly on the Splinterlands website. Easy.

If you want to dive into the secondary market, you can also pay in SWAP.HIVE through Hive-Engine. Think of it as an “official parallel market,” so to speak.

When you open the trade page, the system already shows the lowest listed price and automatically calculates how much it’ll cost if you buy X packs. So, no crazy math needed.

The good part is that the purchase goes straight into your Splinterlands account. You don’t have to transfer tokens from one layer to another. This makes everything faster and headache-free.

A lot of newcomers see Hive-Engine and think it’s complicated. But honestly, once you use it the first time, you realize how practical it is. It acts as a bridge between the main HIVE and all the secondary tokens in the ecosystem.

To make it even simpler:

  • You convert your HIVE into SWAP.HIVE.
  • With SWAP.HIVE, you can trade packs, DEC, SPS, and other assets.
  • All of this without leaving the safe Hive blockchain environment.

It’s like that friend who makes everything easier at a party. You could still manage without him, but with him, things get much smoother.

Is it worth holding packs?

Now this part doesn’t have a right answer.

Holding packs can be a great investment, but it can also flop, depending on the edition. If you believe in the game’s growth and want to bet on the future, holding some packs could be smart. The logic is simple: the longer time passes, the fewer packs remain on the market. That usually drives prices up.

But if you’re just starting and need to strengthen your deck to climb leagues, it might be better to open everything and try your luck. I’ve personally pulled insanely good cards from packs that completely changed my matches.

What I would do if I were starting now

If I were arriving in Splinterlands today, I’d go with a mix:

  • Buy some packs just to open nothing beats the thrill of revealing new cards.
  • Save at least two or three of the current edition, thinking about future appreciation.

And of course, I’d always check the secondary market before deciding. Sometimes you’ll find deals way cheaper than the official shop.

The main point here is: there’s no secret or big mystery when it comes to buying packs in Splinterlands. Whether through the in-game market or Hive-Engine, the process is pretty smooth.

In the end, Splinterlands remains strong, proving that a blockchain-based collectible card game can be much more than speculation: it’s about fun, strategy, and community. So let’s explore, buy, sell, open, hold, and most importantly play. Because at the end of the day, that’s what makes it all worth it.
