A journey through time: discovering the Cienfuegos Provincial Historical Museum // Un viaje a través del tiempo: descubriendo el Museo Histórico Provincial de Cienfuegos (Eng-Esp)
Hello, friends from #worldmappin. Today, I want to invite you to join me on a journey through a cultural institution that holds part of the history, heritage, and identity of the city where I was born. Its name: Provincial Museum of Cienfuegos.
A neoclassical-style building constructed in 1893, which was formerly the Spanish Casino of the city.
As we enter, a majestic noble staircase awaits us, which we will climb, but first, let’s explore the ground floor of the building, where we find this beautiful piece with stunning details that I couldn’t help but admire.
Upon entering the first room, I was amazed by the period furniture and the symmetry between the chandelier and the fascinating centerpiece. Both look spectacular, and next to them, this piece of furniture displays porcelain and biscuit figurines.
Walking toward the second room, I immerse myself in the essence of those who first inhabited these lands. I observe petaloid axes, stone knives, beautiful naturally formed necklaces, and, to my surprise, the immortal presence of one of those ancient inhabitants.
But my fascination doesn’t stop there as I come across a grand piano and two gigantic musical staffs that invite us to enjoy music or even create it ourselves.
I couldn’t help but admire this antique barrel troll or music box.
Now, I invite you to discover, in this cultivation of the soul, the second floor. But first, let’s enjoy the museum’s courtyard, where we find the Peacock Gate, in Art Nouveau style, which once belonged to the islander (Canarian) Don Facundo Ramírez and was part of the entrance to his family villa.
In the courtyard, I also enjoyed this plant and the intricate details of the column where it rests.
Leaving the courtyard, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that several sculptures guard the staircase.
As I climb to the next floor, a large mirror continues to showcase the skill of the artisans and carpenters who lived in this city, and my eyes can’t escape the details of the vases and the clock motifs that remind me I live in a city surrounded by the sea.
In the temporary art gallery, I couldn’t take my eyes off the ceiling, where several murals and other chandeliers coexist, along with large windows built to let the breeze refresh the rooms in such a warm climate, while the stained glass allows light to pour in.
Here, I was able to feel the presence of various works of art.
Later, the path leads us to another history room, where different tools and technologies from various eras are displayed, as well as other elements that remind us that, unfortunately, at some point in history, the slave trade existed.
They, despite being forcibly brought to these lands, carried with them their cultures and customs, which are now an integral part of our identity.
Later, I was able to admire the view of the city center from the balconies surrounding the building. Before my eyes stood palaces, houses, theaters, and other buildings constructed at different times, revealing the splendor and flourishing of an era.
On my way back, I bid farewell to the museum while enjoying, in the exit hallway, these pieces of furniture and their details.
I hope you have rejoiced with me in this beautiful journey, as I sit here savoring a coffee and reminiscing about everything I was able to discover during this tour—a spiritual growth experience for all of us.
