Alchemie/Medizin Buch 1680

Tonight I used the time for myself. I try to read or study for at least half an hour a day. At home I have a collection of old books, mainly in Latin, German and Slavonic. I have old Bibles in Slavonic, which I can't actually read because I couldn't learn the script. I have religious or scientific books in Latin and German. I can read and understand both well, but the German language has changed a lot. The picture is of a book that I gave to my best friend as a wedding present. He collects medical books and this book is about medicine. It was printed in German in 1680 and is about wine and what you can do with it once it has evaporated. This aurum potabile, as it is called in the book, a kind of drinkable gold, which at the time was said to have healing and life-prolonging properties. Everything is based on alchemy, and this is associated with medicine.
Today I cleaned a book from 1730 by going through the pages. After I buy the books, I clean them by going through all the pages with a brush to remove the dust. I always do this outside in the sun with a mask. The sun damages the paper, but it kills the germs. Then I put the book in the freezer for a month to make sure. This book is about historical events from the Thirty Years' War.
And yes, I read all the books I have, because if you don't read, you can't learn much new. What do you think?

Heute Abend habe ich die Zeit für mich genutzt. Ich versuche, wenigstens eine halbe Stunde am Tag zu lesen oder zu lernen. Zu Hause habe ich eine Sammlung von alten Büchern, hauptsächlich in Latein, Deutsch und Slawonisch. Auf Slawonisch habe ich alte Bibeln, die ich eigentlich nicht lesen kann, weil ich die Schrift nicht lernen konnte. Auf Latein und Deutsch habe ich religiöse oder wissenschaftliche Bücher. Beide kann ich gut lesen und auch verstehen, aber die deutsche Sprache hat sich sehr verändert. Das Bild ist von einem Buch, das ich meinem besten Freund zur Hochzeit geschenkt habe. Er sammelt medizinische Bücher und dieses Buch ist über Medizin. Es wurde 1680 in deutscher Sprache gedruckt und handelt von Wein und was man daraus machen kann, wenn er schon verdunstet ist. Dieses Aurum Potabile, wie es in dem Buch heißt, eine Art trinkbares Gold, dem man damals heilende und lebensverlängernde Wirkung zuschrieb. Alles basiert auf der Alchemie, und diese wird mit der Medizin in Verbindung gebracht.
HHeute habe ich ein Buch aus dem Jahr 1730 gereinigt, indem ich die Seiten durchgegangen bin. Nachdem ich die Bücher gekauft habe, reinige ich sie, indem ich mit einem Pinsel durch alle Seiten gehe, um den Staub zu entfernen. Ich mache das immer draußen in der Sonne mit einer Maske. Die Sonne schadet dem Papier, aber sie tötet die Keime. Danach lege ich das Buch für einen Monat in den Gefrierschrank, um sicher zu gehen. In diesem Buch geht es um historische Ereignisse aus dem Dreißigjährigen Krieg.
Und ja, ich lese alle Bücher, die ich habe, denn wer nicht liest, kann nicht viel Neues lernen. Was meint ihr dazu?

We discovered the location of an ancestor, and could be able to draw a whole branch of the family tree.
That’s cool! Reading old books will be quite expository to knowing how our ancestors lived and how they think.
I love these bits of history. Some old churches have a nice archive. My grandfather managed to trace back the family to the 1600, and we could see how they did, who they have been and their struggle true history. I write this, as it is related to old books, as he found in some old medicine book, a reference to one of our ancestors and a town where he lived, and going to the towns church, we could build up some good generations of the family tree.
That sounds really cool. 1600 is such a long time. Thanks for sharing.
Especially in Eastern Europe, where there was war and invasions from Asia since known mankind.
