Hilpoltstein

I drove from Nuremberg to Munich this week and somehow all the charging stations on the motorway were unavailable, only the Tesla one, but I never charge there. So I had to get off the motorway and drove to the nearest fast-charging station in Hilpoltstein. I drove past the Rothsee lake, which is famous for its triathlon competitions in the summer, and into Hilpoltstein. I was pleasantly surprised by the town, as it reminded me of Germany 20 years ago. It's very clean, no rubbish on the streets and somehow the young people spoke pure German, not what you usually hear in the big cities. Yes, there is also a high proportion of people with a migrant background, like me, but they tend to be European migrants who have integrated well into society. It's a small city with less than 14,000 inhabitants, but it's beautiful.

Ich bin diese Woche von Nürnberg nach München gefahren und irgendwie waren alle Ladesäulen auf der Autobahn nicht verfügbar, nur die von Tesla, aber da tanke ich nie. Also musste ich von der Autobahn runter und bin zur nächsten Schnellladesäule in Hilpoltstein gefahren. Die Stadt hat mich positiv überrascht, denn sie hat mich an Deutschland vor 20 Jahren erinnert. Es ist sehr sauber, kein Müll auf der Straße und irgendwie sprachen die Jugendlichen ein reines Deutsch, nicht das, was man leider sonst in den Großstädten hört. Ja, es gibt auch einen hohen Anteil an Menschen mit Migrationshintergrund, so wie ich, aber es sind eher europäische Migranten, die sich gut in die Gesellschaft integriert haben. Es ist eine kleine Stadt mit weniger als 14.000 Einwohnern, aber sie ist schön.

The town is over 1,000 years old, as it was mentioned in documents as early as the 10th century, primarily as a defence against the cavalry hordes of the Hungarians. In the 13th and 14th centuries, the castle was the seat of the Lords of Stein and passed to the Wittelsbach family in 1385.
The beautiful castle also survived the Thirty Years' War without major damage, but has not been used since the 18th century and has unfortunately fallen into disrepair. Next to the castle is the Traidkasten, now the Haus des Gastes with tourist information centre and adult education centre.

Die Stadt ist über 1.000 Jahre alt, denn sie wurde bereits im 10. Jahrhundert urkundlich erwähnt, vor allem zur Verteidigung gegen die Reiterhorden der Ungarn. Im 13. und 14. Jahrhundert war die Burg Sitz der Herren von Stein und ging 1385 an die Wittelsbacher über.
Auch den Dreißigjährigen Krieg überstand die schöne Burg ohne größere Schäden, wurde aber seit dem 18. Jahrhundert nicht mehr genutzt und verfiel leider. Neben der Burg steht der Traidkasten, heute Haus des Gastes mit Tourist-Information und Volkshochschule.
Auch den Dreißigjährigen Krieg überstand die schöne Burg ohne größere Schäden, wurde aber seit dem 18. Jahrhundert nicht mehr genutzt und verfiel leider. Neben der Burg steht der Traidkasten, heute Haus des Gastes mit Tourist-Information und Volkshochschule.
I made the most of the time I had to charge, as it gave me a good view over the city. I was lucky because it was sunny in Middle Franconia. I think it's worth a visit because the city, although small, has something nice about it.

Die Zeit zum Laden habe ich richtig genutzt, den es hat mir einen guten Ausblick über die Stadt gegeben. Ich hatte Glück, den es war sonnig in Mittelfranken. Denke, es ist ein Besuch wert, den die Stadt, obwohl die klein ist, etwas Feines hat.

What a lovely detour! Sometimes unexpected stops lead to the most charming discoveries. Hilpoltstein looks peaceful and full of character—with history, clean streets, and a genuine vibe. I love how you captured both its beauty and the nostalgia it evoked!
