The tradition of getting sick in December

I've noticed a pattern these past few years: every time Christmas rolls around, when we're all the happiest and most excited, something always happens to dampen that happiness. Things get complicated somehow, and we have to spend money outside of our Christmas budget. This year, it wasn't even a health problem that appeared out of nowhere; my son managed to hurt himself so badly that he ended up with a terrible infection.

We planned for months for the arrival of December because we had so many plans and things to do. I still remember the anxiety attacks and pressure I felt since October to get everything ready, and in the end, nothing went as expected because my son bit his toenails so much that he infected them. I don't know where this problem came from, but it has been getting worse and worse. This last week, I've tried to transform myself from a human being into a surveillance camera to prevent him from self-mutilating.

But it has been extremely difficult because he does it the same way; when I get distracted and turn to look at him, he already has his fingernails or toenails in his mouth. Honestly, I don't know what to do anymore, and at this point, I'll have to seek psychological support to find the root of this problem.

We took him to the doctor to treat the infection. Luckily, the doctor said it wasn't anything too serious and prescribed antibiotics and a cream. We hope to see results this week to improve that nasty injury he got. We also took advantage of the appointment to check that everything else is okay, and he's quite healthy.

I hope that one December we'll be at peace without anyone getting sick. Getting sick in this country is practically a luxury, especially when it's from something as stupid as self-harm—a completely unnecessary expense, but oh well… Now I need to find help for my son and figure out why on earth he bites his nails.

I hope the medicine the doctor gave your son is effective so that he can recover soon. I also don't know why your son is biting his finger, maybe that's his malnerism if you believe that.
