Prices reflect the country we live in

More than a week after the incident in my country, we have seen price increases in many things, not just food, but EVERYTHING: appliances, clothing, shoes, etc. I thought it was a lie, but I had to see it with my own eyes, since not long ago I bought food at normal prices, but this week everyone went crazy and decided to get high and set new prices for everything. I couldn't take many photos because if they saw me doing it, they would have called me out, but I managed to capture the most impressive ones.

I never imagined going to buy meat and paying $17 per kilo. Meat (although it had already increased in price for no reason previously) wasn't that incomparable, as it used to cost $8 per kilo. Today, this is the reality, and in other places it's WORSE, as it reaches $20. I find this extremely absurd. How are we going to survive now? Eggs are the cheapest thing now, but imagine eating eggs every day—it's a bit exhausting, or so I think.

Today I was determined to buy meat, but at that price it's absurd, so I decided to look for other options, and the cheapest were chicken wings, but obviously they didn't have any... So I ended up choosing a whole chicken that... Yes! It had also gone up in price, although the increase was only a dollar, so it's still better than buying meat, at least it's a little cheaper... The chicken I chose cost me $12, which is too expensive, but it was either that or not buying anything for the week...

I felt extremely frustrated. I couldn't even buy everything on my list because I didn't have enough money. With these prices, you basically have to choose between eating meat or buying rice, pasta, and other things you could buy with $17. I also saw “DOG FOOD.” I found it funny and ironic that I hadn't seen this type of food since the economic crisis of 2017, when we had to EAT it to survive. I wonder, will we soon be back to the same thing?

And if that wasn't enough, I went to the fruit and vegetable section to see if I could buy apples for my son, and it turns out that the price of apples went from $5 to $12.31 per kilo. If it was hard for me to buy apples when they cost $5 per kilo, imagine how hard it is now... UNAFFORDABLE. And so it is with many fruits and vegetables, so eating healthy will never happen in this damn country.

Hoy me siento deprimida, preocupada, angustiada, desesperada…

Today I feel depressed, worried, anxious, desperate... Those of us in Venezuela are always waiting to see what the next step will be, watching the news and thinking about a future that we have no idea if we will ever reach or if it will ever happen. I don't really want to say much about what is happening because, well... You know. But one thing I am sure of is that the country has to change completely, not just the government, but the people... We are destroying ourselves, and that is crystal clear to me right now, seeing the disaster they are creating with prices and dollar rates, etc. Changing such a mediocre mindset that has been cultivated for 20 years is not an easy task at all.

Hi, thanks for sharing. It seems like the drastic price increases are making basic necessities difficult to afford. The same thing is happening in my area, especially a month ago during a natural disaster, when we had difficulty obtaining basic necessities.

This may reflect the economic crisis and the suffering of citizens, unstoppable by state policies, due to their stupidity and greed for their own interests.

Perhaps it's time for us to seriously consider changing the economic system and creating a better future, and encouraging people around us to understand sustainable economics like blockchain...
