Kitty mask and gloves!

Buenas noches amigos. A pesar de que estamos aun en febrero, ya falta poco para la celebración de carnaval en mi país, desde esta semana la escuela ha enviado ya las cosas que hay que tener listas para la fiesta de carnaval de los niños, una de ellas es el “disfraz” que esta vez la temática será de animales, la maestra dijo que cada niño debía escoger que animal quería representar en su disfraz, yo le pregunte a mi hijo y como es amante de los gatos, obviamente quiso disfrazarse de gato, me pareció muy tierno pero a la vez me sentí muy preocupada ya que este disfraz debe ser realizado por nosotros mismos y siento que representar un gato no es tan sencillo, pero al final no quise amargarme demasiado la vida y pensé en hacerle una mascara y unos guantes de gato negro, me pareció una buena idea y además bastante sencilla de hacer, a mi hijo le encanto y esta muy feliz con el resultado, eso es lo mas importante, quise hacerlo desde hoy para tener tiempo libre de ocuparme de las demás actividades que estan pendientes en la escuela, estos últimos días han sido realmente estresantes y adelantar trabajo siempre es bueno, en fin, espero que les guste.

Although we are still in February, it is not long before the celebration of carnival in my country, since this week the school has already sent the things to have ready for the children's carnival party, one of them is the “costume” that this time the theme will be animals, The teacher said that each child should choose which animal he wanted to represent in his costume, I asked my son and as he is a cat lover, he obviously wanted to dress up as a cat, I thought it was very cute but at the same time I felt very worried because this costume must be made by ourselves and I feel that representing a cat is not so easy, but in the end I didn't want to be too bitter and I thought of making him a mask and some black cat gloves, I thought it was a good idea and also quite simple to do, my son loved it and is very happy with the result, that's the most important thing, I wanted to do it from today to have free time to take care of the other activities that are pending at school, these last days have been really stressful and advance work is always good, anyway, I hope you like it.

  • Foami rosa, blanco y negro

  • Lápiz

Proceso/Process

Comencé con la máscara para la cual utilice una hoja blanca para realizar el boceto, medí la hoja en el rostro de mi hijo y marque la medida de ancho que necesitaba, realice el boceto a mano alzada del rostro de un gato, luego doble la hoja justo en la mitad del rostro del gato y comencé a recortar para que quedara bastante simétrico ya que el boceto no quedo 100% perfecto, cuando revise lo que había recortado se veía bastante igual en ambos lados, se lo medí nuevamente a mi hijo para asegurar que este bien y luego pegue el molde de hoja blanca sobre foami negro con cinta adhesiva para recortarlo exactamente igual y evitar que se mueva la silueta.

I started with the mask for which I used a white sheet to make the sketch, I measured the sheet on my son's face and marked the width measurement I needed, I made a freehand sketch of a cat's face, then I folded the sheet right in the middle of the cat's face and started to cut it so it would be quite symmetrical since the sketch was not 100% perfect, when I checked what I had cut out it looked pretty much the same on both sides, I measured it again to my son to make sure it was right and then I glued the white sheet mold on black foami with adhesive tape to cut it exactly the same and prevent the silhouette from moving.

Una vez que tenia el rostro listo empecé a recortar en foami blanco la parte de la boca en forma de un corazón inverso, lo medí usando el boceto, para la nariz no medí, simplemente calcule el tamaño que necesitaba y la recorte en foami rosa claro, con silicón en barra pegue todas las piezas y recordé que tambien debía usar foami rosa para las orejas, recorte la figura varias veces hasta que encajara perfectamente en cada oreja, quise añadir algunos detalles de sombras y luces muy sutiles, para esto utilice marcadores acrílicos, recorte tiras muy finas de foami blanco para simular los bigotes y los pegue.

Once I had the face ready I started to cut in white foami the part of the mouth in the shape of an inverted heart, I measured it using the sketch, for the nose I didn't measure, I just calculated the size I needed and cut it in light pink foami, with silicone stick I glued all the pieces and I remembered that I also had to use pink foami for the ears, I cut the figure several times until it fit perfectly in each ear, I wanted to add some very subtle details of shadows and lights, for this I used acrylic markers, I cut very thin strips of white foami to simulate the whiskers and glued them.

Le realice unos huecos pequeños a la mascara donde coloque hilo grueso, lo amarre y deje tiras en ambos lados, después me ocupe de los guantes, estuve días pensando en como hacer unos guantes ya que sentía que el disfraz estaría incompleto sin algo tan característico de los gatos como son esas hermosas patitas suaves que parecen almohaditas, entonces comencé a buscar entre mi ropa a ver que podía servir y conseguí unas medias panty negras que nunca he usado, se me ocurrió hacer unos guantes con ello, cuando se los medí a mi hijo le quedaba muy grande pero decidí seguir e improvisar, recorte la media por ambos lados dejándola en forma de manga.

I made some small holes in the mask where I put thick thread, I tied it and left strips on both sides, then I took care of the gloves, I spent days thinking about how to make gloves because I felt that the costume would be incomplete without something so characteristic of cats as are those beautiful soft paws that look like little pillows, so I started to look through my clothes to see what I could use and I got some black pantyhose that I have never used, I thought of making some gloves with it, when I measured them to my son they were too big but I decided to go ahead and improvise, I cut the stocking on both sides leaving it in the shape of a sleeve.

A esta media la recorte por una esquina haciendo un corte recto y corto donde pasaría su dedo pulgar, con un marcador blanco marque en la parte donde pegaría la pata de gatito, luego tuve que darle vuelta a la media y coser un poco para que se hiciera mas estrecho, ya que, como les comente a mi hijo le quedaba muy grande , después de coserlo se lo medí y ahora le quedaban perfectos, era momento de recortar las huellas de las patitas, para ellos hice las figuras en el foami rosa, las recorte y pegue con silicón en barra y asi fue como termine este lindo disfraz de gatito.

To this stocking I cut it by a corner making a straight and short cut where I would pass his thumb, with a white marker I marked the part where I would paste the kitty paw, then I had to turn the stocking and sew a little to make it narrower, since, as I told y son outgrew his gloves, after sewing it I measured it and now it was perfect, it was time to cut out the paw prints, for them I made the figures in the pink foami, cut them out and glued them with silicone stick and that's how I finished this cute kitty costume.

Final

Es sencillo pero muy bonito y como mencioné antes lo mas importante es que el esta muy feliz con su disfraz, realmente pudo escoger cualquier animal y se le ocurrió ser un gatito jajaja.

It is simple but very cute and as I mentioned before the most important thing is that he is very happy with his costume, he really could have chosen any animal and he came up with a kitten hahaha.

That such a cutie creative and adorable DIY costume. I remember when I had to make a last-minute costume for school, and it was so stressful, but seeing the final result made it all worth it.
