Art and Creativity Journal: Last Week I Painted — Week Six, 2026
Finally getting around to posting Week Six of my new work recaps, running late due to a busy week; continuing to share painted stones completed during the preceding week. These are simple photos of the stones recently painted, shown in "raw" format, before they get their protective finish coat.
I'm using the Danish numbering system for weeks that I grew up with, which means weeks start on Monday and end on Sunday. As much as anything, the purpose of these posts is to create a "work catalog" of sorts.
Giant Galaxy Stone
The first stone in this week's compendium actually doesn't really count.
This is a huge stone that I found last year sometime during the summer when it became the largest stone in paintable condition I have ever had.
I actually started painting it in August, and worked a little bit on it from time to time, then it sat for several months, then I worked a little bit on it again thinking that maybe I could get it ready for Christmas shows but I got too busy, so then it sat again until late January when I finally decided to continue working on it.
While continuing to do other work, I finally got it finished — at least the painting part of it — last week.
The idea here was to loosely base it around a spiral galaxy, but over time it became a spiral galaxy with four arms instead of two.
The thing is truly massive, being close to 7 inches in diameter, and weighing in at nearly 4 lbs. It is very difficult to work with stones this large because they have to be constantly moved while I'm painting them.
But it's also a rarity that I get to paint something like this because Stones is large are virtually never smooth enough that I can put a detailed mandala design on them.
Pretty Tiny
This is just a cute little stone that I decided to paint because it has an exceptionally smooth surface. Most likely it will end up being part of the stones my wife gives away to clients.
Solar Plexus Chakra
Another Chakra Stone, this one representing the Solar Plexus Chakra.
These get a little more into the metaphysical aspects of Alchemy Stones and tend to be very popular at events.
Larger and Brighter
This one's a lot bigger and is one of the bigger things I have painted in one sitting. I really like the contrasting between the crimson red and the shades of blue and purple.
This is actually a color set I have used before although the patterns are always different, and one that inevitably sells very quickly when we go to shows.
Smaller Version
As I said, I really like this color set, so this is a smaller version of it in a size that's going to end up in our pre bagged gift basket for $12.
Heart Chakra Stone
A somewhat smaller Heart Chakra Stone in the traditional colors associated with that chakra, and invariably the most popular of the chakra colors we sell at shows.
Just goes to show that most people are into heart stuff!
Small Heart Shaped Heart
Although we're obviously too late for Valentine's day, this is one of my rare heart-shaped rocks that actually was smooth enough to be painted.
Decided to get this one done because I'm getting very close to having the basket of heart stones fully back up to show standards. I think it turned out pretty well!
Larger Heart Shaped Heart
This was a really nice larger heart-shaped stone I found out on the Pacific coast more than a year ago. Sometimes I find stones that I'm kind of attached to only wanting to paint when I really feel inspired to do so and this was one of them.
I'm going to be putting this in the Etsy shop next week so I doubt it will actually make it to a show, but only time will tell. It'll be gone for Mother's Day, for sure!
Small Altar Set
This is a match set of four smaller stones, representing the four elements Earth, Water, Fire and Air. Always a popular item when we do spiritual festivals.
Medium Protection Set
Much in the same vein as the smaller set picture above this one represents the four directions, and again is used by people who are into metaphysics to "energetically grid" their space for Spiritual protection.
I don't claim to understand exactly how that works, and it's one of those cases where I feel like somebody who might grow amazing plants and herbs, but I'm not somebody who makes potions.
Cancer Meditation Stone
Back when I first started painting mandalas on stones, one of my earliest commissions was to make a stone for a friend of a friend who was battling cancer.
The instructions were pretty simple: "just make her something she can focus on and hold while saying her prayers and focusing on healing."
While not really thinking about anything in particular, I ended up creating a very vibrant yellow-orange-red stone, which the person with cancer became very attached to, and somehow her cancer went into remission. I don't know if it had anything to do with my stone but ever since then whenever I feel compelled to use this particular color set I always think of it as a "cancer meditation stone."
Large Spiral Stone
I've always preferred to paint on larger stones but sadly I don't find enough of them that are suitable for painting. This was a great one I found on the beach just a couple of weeks ago, and I decided to put a spiral pattern on it.
I've always liked the sense of movement that comes with this particular design and I think this one turned out quite well.
Cancer Meditation Stone II
I guess I'm feeling inspired to paint some of these at the moment because a close friend of ours' mother is battling cancer at the moment.
This one is somewhat bigger than the first one up above, and also seemed to turn out quite well. I can't wait to see these once they get their finish coat on and they get even brighter!
And so that is the conclusion of a week that actually had surprisingly much work in it!
