Art and Creativity Journal: Art vs. Life
I have been rather remiss in posting updates for a while.
My most accurate explanation for why that is would be to say that life is interfering with my creativity!

I expect this is the reality for many artists and creatives, especially those of us who are not making a full-time living from our creative work. We basically have to deal with the day-to-day stuff before we can sit down and give time and energy to the creativity.
This past week there's been an awful lot of "day-to-day stuff" and so I have not had time to do photography and post the stones I painted last week — which were relatively few, nor had time for any other kind of post.
We're also in process of migrating our old website, scattered blogs and sales venues into a new domain and a new website all together in one place. More about that in a future post.
The old website was little more than an old Blogger blog with its own domain name, and it was never a "real" website. Since my wife is an accomplished graphic artist and web designer she has volunteered to put together that real website for Alchemy Atones. And it's about time! After all, I've been doing this for more than 15 years now and it doesn't look like I'm going to quit anytime soon!
I've heard it said that if you're passionate about something and that "something" is really important to you you will make the time to make it work.
While I believe there are at least elements of truth to such a statement, I think it also disregards the nature of life in 2026 where many of us are working dawn to dusk simply to keep food on the table and the electricity turned on.
Then again, art was historically always a bit of a luxury and people who were actual full-time artists typically were able to be that because they had a "patron" who underwrote their financial needs. That's really not something we have in the year 2026.
While I'd like to make grandiose promises about getting back to a more regular posting schedule I'm afraid I just can't do that. It's always the promises and the plans that get me in trouble because they tend to be "what will get done in the ideal situation" but life as we experience it is seldom ideal.

Because I am trying to make some semblance of income — a part time living, even — I now add this footer to all my posts, in the hope that someone, somewhere, might decide to take a further look at my work, and perhaps consider supporting independent art.
