SOLUTION TO MATHS CHALLENGE FOR 03/03/2025 // BY @AKWASH360

Hello everyone, I’m delighted to submit my input for the Maths Challenge for 03/03/2025. It really helped me to do deep research on the solution but I’m glad that at the end of it all I was able to get a tangible solution and that gives me great joy. Anytime I tried to get a solution to a question like this and I succeeded in getting it I derive great joy from that.
So, without further wasting of time I would like to explain the whole process of getting the solution.

The first thing I did was to represent the questions in the rectangle as clearly stated, where I represented the x, y and also the diagonal we are to obtain. After which I had to derive the equation 1 and 2 that would enable me to solve simultaneously.

Furthermore, I proceeded by solving the simultaneous using substitution method. I had to make X the subject of the formulae for equation 1, which I have it to be X = 77 - Y. And I further substitute the value of X into equation 2 which finally lead me to having a quadratic equation.

I then proceeded to solving the quadratic equation using the quadratic formulae in order to obtain the value of X and Y. I was able to get the value of X to be 42 and the value of Y to be 35.

Finally, in order to find the diagonal of the rectangle which happens to be our target, we have to use the Pythagorean theorem to obtain that have known the value for X and Y as initially obtained. Solving further I was able to get the diagonal of the rectangle to be 54.67
