FungiFriday: Wild Mushroom Under Canopy of the Woods

I spotted the petticoat brittlestem occurring in clusters under the canopy of the southern woods of my town. The petticoat brittlestem with scientific name Psathyrella artemisiae is a fungus belonging to the family Psathyrellaceae. The mushroom’s structure has the following characteristics: a brown cap with white scales, brownish gills, and a hollow white brittle stem.

This fungus is commonly found in habitats rich in decaying forest litter—sometimes seen on rotting banana stems—and shaded from sunlight.

Such an environment certainly has a challenge; prepared for the onslaught of fierce forest mosquitoes—there's no harm in donating a little of your blood to them.
