Maker Residency after WGT / WGTのちメイカーレジデンシー

The Gothic Festival ended on Monday, and from Tuesday I’ve been in Chemnitz—another city in the same state to participate in a Maker Residency Program. Chemnitz is one of this year’s European Capitals of Culture, and this program is part of that initiative. Makers from across Europe, as well as from Africa and Japan, have gathered here.

Each participant is hosted by a local makerspace, where we spend two weeks creating projects. At the end of the residency, we offer workshops for children and present our results during a public festival. It’s a full schedule!

My proposal is themed around roughly “AI and Sushi,” and I’m hosted by a newly established community kitchen. I’ve heard a tea ceremony teacher from Japan will also be joining, and we’re planning to offer Japanese food workshops and tastings together. With TV crews coming to cover us etc things are unfolding fast and unpredictably 😅

During the first three days of the program, my partner was away on a business trip. We tried applying for my daughter to take a few days off school—and to my surprise, it was approved! So she came along with me. While I was prototyping, she baked muffins and shared them with the kitchen team. Later, she wanted to bring some to her favorite makerspace she visited. She loves working with her hands, so I hope she enjoyed the stay.

Today, I spent time at a nearby DIY-style makerspace working on moving Puppie (@pupiko) over to a Raspberry Pi Zero. It was so nice to code in a quiet space while most people were out at events.

I also completed a prototype of a new product idea that came to me after arriving in Chemnitz. Slowly but surely, things are coming together for next week’s events—and that’s a relief and a joy.

月曜日にゴシックフェスティバルが終わって、火曜日から同じ州にあるケムニッツという街でメイカーレジデンシープログラムに参加しています。ケムニッツは今年のヨーロッパ文化都市で、このプログラムもその一環。ものづくりに携わる人がヨーロッパ各地はもちろん、アフリカや日本からも来ています。

参加者はホストとなるメイカースペース（ものづくりの場）で制作をして、2週間のプログラムの最後には子供向けにワークショップを開催したり、フェスティバルで来場者に成果を発表したり、盛りだくさんです。

私は「AIと寿司」というテーマで提案をして、新しくできたコミュニティキッチンがホストです。日本から茶道の先生も来るそうで、一緒に日本食のワークショップやサンプルを提供する予定です。テレビが取材に来ることになったり、ワークショップの参加者が4倍に増えたり、日々あれこれ飛び込んでくるのでどうなることやら 😅

プログラムの最初の3日間は、相方が出張で、ダメ元で学校にお休みを申請したら申請が通り、子供が遊びに来ていました。私が試作をする横でマフィンを作って、キッチンのチームにふるまったり、気に入ったメイカースペースに持っていきたいと言い出したり。手を動かすのが好きな子なので、メイカー気分を楽しんでくれたかな？

今日は近所の工作系のメイカースペースで、PuppieをRaspberry Pi Zeroに移植する作業をしていました。イベントで人が出払っている静かなメイカースペースでのコーディングタイム、満喫しました。

あとはケムニッツについてから思いついたプロダクトの試作品が完成。ちょっとずつ来週のイベントに向けて準備が進みつつあり、ほっと一息、うれしいです。
