In Munich, too — design and food / ミュンヘンでもデザインと食

I arrived in Munich yesterday. While I’m here, I find myself skipping most of the sightseeing and instead peeking into the same kinds of shops I visit whenever I go to Berlin — Manufactum, its sister store Magazin, and MUJI. At some point, I caught myself doing it and laughed. I must really love “design,” “food,” and “things made with care.”

Just like in Berlin, the Munich shop is filled with carefully made products. Wandering through the kitchenware, gardening goods, and books — my favorite sections — I felt a bit more grounded, as if the long journey and lack of sleep started to wear off.

This time, I had the chance to visit the Manufactum's sister shop, Magazin, for the first time. I browsed through their collection of sleek household goods and furniture, and picked up a bunch of catalogs to take with me.

The catalogs are so beautiful, like interior magazines — flipping through the pages back at the hotel, I’ve been daydreaming about how I might renovate my current space, or what kind of rooftop I’d like for my future studio.

Today, I’m planning to visit Viktualienmarkt, a historic market in the heart of Munich’s old town, known for its fresh produce, flowers, and local delicacies. I’ll also stop by Eataly, a big Italian food hall and marketplace.

Even if I stray from the typical tourist route, I’m learning that following my own taste makes for a satisfying kind of travel.

Next week, I’ll be in Graz for Hive Creators Day. It seems this year will be even more filled with travel than the last — and I’m looking forward to enjoying each part of the journey as it comes.

昨日からミュンヘンに来ています。観光はそこそこに、つい覗いてしまうのはManufactumやその姉妹ストアのMagazin、無印・・・とベルリンに遊びに行く時と同じようなお店ばかり見ている自分にふと気づいて、私は、「デザイン」「食」「ていねいに作られたもの」が好きなんだなあと、なんだか笑ってしまった。

ベルリンのお店同様、ていねいに作られたプロダクトがところせましと並んでいて、特にキッチン用品、ガーデニング用品、書籍をゆったりみていると、長旅と寝不足でちょっとだけ疲れた気持ちが整ってきます。

今回は初めて姉妹店のMagazinを覗くことができて、スタイリッシュな生活用品や家具を眺めながらカタログをたくさんもらってきました。

インテリア雑誌のようにも楽しめる美しいカタログで、ホテルでぱらぱらページをめくっては、今の家をどう改造していこう、将来の自分のオフィスはこんなルーフトップがいいなと妄想しています。

今日はミュンヘン旧市街の中心にある歴史あるViktualienmarktというマーケットへ、新鮮な食材や花、地元グルメを楽しみに行って、Eatalyというイタリア食材とレストランの総合施設ものぞいてこようと思います。

観光ルートを外れてしまっても、自分の好きなものを追求する旅もいいですよね。来週はグラーツでHive Creators Dayがあります。今年は去年以上に旅でいっぱいの一年になりそうです。一つ一つ楽しんでいけたらなと思います。
