Hive Fest Day 5 - Hive Rally Car and Closing Party / Hive

During Hive Fest, I got into the habit of writing about the previous day’s events while listening to talks or having breakfast at the hotel.

Now that it’s the last day of my stay, I feel a bit sentimental. It’s been a wonderful five days. Here’s a look at the final day of Hive Fest 2024, Day 5!

The highlight of the day was the Hive Rally Car. The event was sponsored by the decentralized video-sharing platform 3Speak. The event was held at a driving lane outside the city, so we headed there on a big bus.

Since there was some time before the bus left, I decided to check out the market recommended by the Hive Fest app. It was a mix of fresh produce for locals and souvenirs for tourists.

On the bus, I had chance to sit next to @rolandp , the long time organizer of Hive Fest. He shared some stories about how they choose locations and what goes on behind the scenes of the event. I was surprised that he traveled to Split only with a suit case.

The bus arrived earlier than Hive Rally Car, so I spent some time chatting and doing something nice 😉 I must make Hive outdoor stickers too.

The Hive Rally Car was towed in, which surprised me, and I later found out it can’t be driven on public roads. It makes sense, as it doesn’t have a license plate—there’s always something new to learn!

Under the bright Croatian sky, the Hive Rally Car looked even more strong and beautiful.

Though I knew about the Hive Rally Car, I wasn’t familiar with the details of the project. So, I read articles and watched some videos beforehand. The Hive YouTube video does a great job explaining the project.

In the video, the driver @ssekulji talks that he had to pause his racing career because racing is expensive. Hearing how the community funding supported him and the project reminded me of @mcsamm ’s project in Ghana that was presented on the conference days. Once again, I felt deeply touched. Hive is truly an amazing community.

The Hive Rally Car has already competed in races, which is a field I’ve never really been into before. But now, after seeing the car in real and learning about the project, I’m excited to start following car races where Hive Rally Car competes.

Although I would’ve loved to stay longer to see more, I had pre-booked a boat tour by myself and had to leave the event.

After a short rest at the hotel, I headed to the boat dock. Unfortunately, I was told the tour was canceled due to bad weather. I felt disappointed, but I checked with another company, and they had space on a larger boat, so I was able to set sail after all.

I wondered if my grandfather, who was a captain of tanker ships, ever saw the Adriatic Sea. After retiring, he bought his own boat, and I have fond memories of fishing, cruising, and swimming offshore with him. The faint smell of engine oil and the salty sea breeze took me right back to those times.

The sky was cloudy, so I couldn’t see the sunset and the moon clearly, but the sea and sky were still incredibly beautiful. I’m so glad I didn’t give up on finding a boat tour.

The view of Split from the sea after sunset was stunning.

After docking, I headed to the closing party at Antique Bar, just a few hundred meters away. I raised a glass of Caipirinha, a cocktail recommended by @ninaeatshere, who had been so welcoming from day one. Big thanks to your friendliness and kindness, Nina!

To my surprise, Sushi was served! It had been a while since I’d had sushi, and it was delicious. I think Hive Fest memory masala made it even tastier 😊

Since I had a flight to Germany next day, I said my goodbyes before the party ended and headed back to the hotel.

During Hive Fest, I got to explore a new city, meet new people, and discover exciting projects. It turned out to be an even more amazing five days than I had expected. I’m already hoping to attend next year, and I would love to see some participants from @hive-ja as well. It seems there are also events happening in Germany and Poland soon, which I’m looking forward to.

Today, I’m flying back to Germany. It rains now, looks like saying good bye. Once I’m back, I’ll share more about the delicious food and other highlights.

Have a great Sunday, everyone!

Hive Fest

Hive Rally Car

It was nice to meet you. And from my side thank you for sharing the boat trip photos. Especially the grill photos made me hungry. My stomach misses Split 😁

I stuck one night in Vienna due to flight delay. Now on my way back to my place finally.

See you soon and have a safe way back to home!

We had a great time in Split with some good food. I will follow up on doing a list of Japanese Hivers. Perhaps you can send me a list of those you know about via Discord or Gmail (steevc on both of those). I can see what others I can fin.

Have fun on your travels.

They have to get registration for cars when racing, because they also drive on public roads when racing (going from stage to stage). Last year few cars were disqualified because they were stopped by German police and something was wrong with their licence plates 😂

I was smiling it's my stereotypical image of Germany ;) That's probably why it safe here though.

Anyways I’m happy that I now have reason to follow races and can enjoy them thanks to Hive Fest, @ssekulji and Hive Rally Car 🚗

😁 it does feel like stereotypical image of Germany. They were all driving in Cech the day before with no problems 😀
