Hilton Porto Gaia - a modern and welcoming hotel definitely I'd love to stay at again

During our stay in Porto, we stayed at Hilton Porto Gaia, located in the Gaia district on the other side of the Douro River from the city center.

This area is known for its port wine cellars. Although it takes a bit longer to reach the city center from Gaia, the accommodation costs are more reasonable. Despite the distance, it was not inconvenient at all since crossing the bridge on foot was enjoyable, public transportation was available, and Uber was very convenient in Portugal. Personally, I liked how peaceful the area was.

My partner, who has business in the travel industry, used all sorts of knowledge and discounts, and since it was the off-season, we ended up with a triple upgrade and a room with lounge access. This was my favorite hotel during our stay in Portugal, and I liked it so much that I’m already thinking of staying here again next winter. So I’m planning to pin it on World Mappin.

When we arrived from the airport on the first day, we were greeted by a modest entrance on a steep street, and I was curious about what it would be like inside. Once we stepped in, we were welcomed by a modern space, which lifted my spirits.

It was the first time in my life that I stayed in a maisonette-type room at a hotel, and our family of three had plenty of space to relax.

We enjoyed a buffet-style breakfast with a wide variety of dishes in a spacious restaurant. It was here that I discovered the cutlery from Vista Alegre that I wrote about on Hive recently. I experienced one of the greatest joys of cutting food with it. I think this kind of encounter or learning is one of the perks of staying in a higher-end hotel.

Staying here allowed us to use the pool and sauna for two hours every day. We followed a routine of eating a hearty breakfast, swimming, and enjoying the sauna before heading out to explore Porto. In Germany, hotel pools are often kept at cool temperatures like sports pools, but this pool had a perfect temperature, like between a hot spring and a pool 👏

The lounge offered light snacks and drinks in the early evening. At other times, tea, coffee, water, nuts, and small treats were available. In the evening, we worked a bit in the lounge and enjoyed the snacks.

The bar in the hotel, CUSCO, has large windows overlooking the Douro River at night.

I visited it two nights in a row, enjoying port wine while journaling. When traveling with family, each of us has different things to do, and time is limited. So, I was glad I got the chance to experience port wine at the hotel bar at night, just within 1 minutes walk from the room.

It was the off-season, so there was a comfortable number of guests and I had chance to hear about Port wine they serve from the bar staffs. Since I couldn’t find the drink menu online, I’m sharing it here. The prices were surprisingly reasonable for a hotel bar.

Throughout our stay, the hotel staff were very kind and accommodating, which was true across Portugal. As I mentioned earlier, I’m already looking forward to coming back to Porto and staying at Hilton Porto Gaia again. Next time, I’d like to set Porto as a base to explore Aveiro and the Douro Valley.

ポルトでは、ドウロ川を挟んで中心部と反対側のガイア地区というポートワインのセラーの並ぶエリアにあるHilton Porto Gaiaに滞在していました。ガイア地区からは中心部に出るには少し時間がかかる分、宿泊費を抑えられます。少し時間がかかるといっても、歩いて橋を渡るのも楽しいし、公共交通はあるし、なんといってもポルトガルではUberが便利なのでまったく不自由しませんでした。個人的には静かなのも好みです。

旅行業の仕事もしている相方がありとあらゆるディスカウントを駆使して、オフシーズンということもあってかトリプルアップグレード、ラウンジアクセスのついたお部屋に滞在できました。個人的には今回のポルトガル滞在で一番気に入ったホテルです。次の冬もまたここに泊まりたいと思っているほどで、World Mappinにピンしておこうと思います。

初日に空港から到着すると、急な坂道に控えめなエントランスがあり、どんな感じなのだろうと思いましたが、中に入るとモダンな空間が広がっていてテンションが上がりました。

人生で初めてのメゾネットタイプの部屋で、家族3人で広々滞在できました。

広々としたスペースで、料理の種類が豊富なビュッフェスタイルの朝ご飯を楽しめました。ここで出会ったのが先日投稿したVista Alegreのカトラリーで、人生最大級の食べ物を切る快感を味わいました。こういう出会いがあるのも、ちょっと背伸びしていいホテルに泊まるののいいところかもと思いました。

宿泊すると、毎日2時間プールとサウナを利用できます。朝ご飯をがっつり食べた後、毎日泳いでサウナに入って観光というスケジュールで過ごしていました。ドイツのホテルのプールはスポーツプールのように水温が低いことが多いのですが、温泉とプールの間のこれ以上にない絶妙な水温でした。

ラウンジでは夕方の早い時間に軽食とお酒が出ます。それ以外の時間はお茶とコーヒー、水があって飲めて、ナッツや小さなお菓子がおいてあります。

ドウロ川の夜景が見られる大きな窓のあるバーCUSCOもよかったです。二晩通ってポルトワインを飲み比べつつ、夜のジャーナリングをしていました。家族と旅をしているとそれぞれやりたいことがあり、時間が限られるので、こうして夜にホテルのバーでポートワインを体験できてよかったです。オフシーズンで適度なお客さんの数で、さらにびっくりするようなお値段でなかったのもよかったです。バーの飲み物のメニューはオンラインで見つからなかったので載せておきます。

ポルトガル全般でそうなのですが、ホテルのみなさんには滞在中とても親切にしていただきました。先にも書きましたが、またポルトに来てHilton Porto Gaia 泊まりたいなとすでに次回が楽しみです。次はポルトを拠点に、アヴェイロやドウロ渓谷に足を伸ばしたいな。
