Hiccups and Humanity on the Way to Penang / マレーシアでのハプニングとやさしさと

I came to Malaysia a bit earlier for Hive Fest, since it coincided with my daughter’s autumn school break — so the whole family joined me this time.

We decided to spend the weekend in Penang to meet one of my university time friends family and relax on beach. We arrived in Kuala Lumpur yesterday, and this morning my partner tried to book the train — only to find that all the tickets were sold out. We did't know trains can be fully booked on weekends.

Luckily, we found a comfortable-looking bus instead. But it kept being delayed… The staff just kept saying “Delay,” and it finally departed two hours later.

While waiting the bus, my daughter — who came from chilly, almost-winter Germany — was completely overwhelmed by the Asian heat and humidity, she was sweating and crying at the same time 😅 Then, a kind woman next to us started fanning her with a portable fan. She said she liked anime and knew a little Japanese.

We wanted to thank her, and I remembered the Furikake (Japanese rice seasoning) I make in Germany and had brought some with me. My daughter wrote a little card, and we sealed the bag with a Hive sticker before giving it to her when we got off the bus. Maybe she’ll check out Hive and become a user — who knows?

After the bus ride, a few more little mishaps followed, but we finally made it to our place in Penang.

Travel always comes with surprises — I just hope this one will be full of good ones 😊

来週のHive Festのためにちょっと早めに、今年は子供の秋休みとも重なったので家族も一緒にマレーシアに来ています。

マレーシア北部のペナン島に大学時代の友人が家族で住んでいることもあり、週末はペナン島で過ごすことにしました。昨日クアラルンプールについて、今朝電車を予約しようと思ったら、週末は売り切れることがあるらしく、すでに完売。幸いゆったり座れる感じのバスが見つかって、バスで行くことに。ところが待てどたってもバスが来ない。係の人は「Delay」の一点張りで、出発がどんどん遅れて結局2時間後に出発しました。

待っているあいだ、もう秋のような冬のようなドイツから来た子供は、暑さに負けて滝のように汗と涙を流してすごいことになっていました・・・ 😅 すると、隣で待っていた女性が、小さな電動扇風機で子供をあおいでくれました。アニメが好きで、日本語が少しわかるとのこと。

何かお礼ができたらいいなと思って、ドイツで作っているふりかけを持ってきていたのを思い出しました。子供と一緒に小さなカードを書き、Hiveのステッカーで袋を閉じて、バスを降りる時に渡しました。Hiveをのぞいて、ユーザーになってくれたりしないかな、なんてちょっと期待しつつ。

バス移動のあとにもいろいろハプニングはありましたが、なんとかペナン島の滞在先に到着。旅にハプ二ングはつきもの。楽しい滞在になりますように 😊
