Garden to Table #01 Broadbeans /
The first proper harvest from the garden this year is broad beans. While I was away for a two-week residency in Chemnitz last month, a friend who rents the neighboring plot kindly looked after the garden, so I was able to harvest them.
It’s a small garden, but compared to my 2+ square meters micro balcony, it feels like having infinit space. I was happy to plant lots of broad beans.
Peeling the beans reminded me of helping my mother when I was little. My daughter does it with me.
Once cooked, they turn this bright green! The vibrant summer color lifts my spirits too.
The first harvest became a quiche we enjoyed as a family.
For the second round, I made a simple pasta for lunch. Both times I paired the beans with asparagus for a feast of summer greens — both for the eyes and the palate. I wish I can do it with own Asparagus next year.
While I was away, my friend even turned some of the beans into homemade doubanjiang and shared it with me. It will ferment for six months — I’m looking forward to using it in winter.
From garden to table — next up might be berries or zucchini.
Happy gardening & cooking!

This is art! Truly. Just look that minimalism and how well equilibrium there is between us, humans and nature itself. Just fascinating
