A difficult day at a veterinary hospital.

Yesterday morning, I took my kitten to the hospital because he hadn't been eating since Monday. Additionally, he was also vomiting and had diarrhea, although these last two symptoms were not frequent. Sufi is a hungry cat and is always looking for something to do, so two whole days of seeing him lying down and not wanting to eat anything I offered made me certain that something was wrong.

Upon arrival, the doctor examined his entire body and said he showed clear signs of anemia, which could have been caused by some underlying condition. Her suspicion was that he may have contracted this illness from contaminated prey he had caught. After all, Sufi is an excellent hunter: mice, cockroaches, small lizards—he not only hunts in my backyard but also in the neighboring yards. So it made sense to think that he probably got poisoned during one of his hunting expeditions. This was indeed the most likely possibility, considering that the house next to mine is abandoned, and both Sufi and other cats go there to play, hunt, and do cat things.

After examining him and drawing his blood, which was quite a challenge, the doctor prescribed some medications that he would need to take to treat the anemia and strengthen him. Well, I don't know if you have ever tried giving medicine to a cat, but it is undoubtedly one of the most stressful situations imaginable. Sufi has to take 5 medications, and one of them needs to be administered every 4 hours. My hands and arms are all scratched up because even though he's weak, Sufi is very strong.

In addition to these 5 medications, with the test results, I found out that he will have to take 4 more medications, bringing the total to 9! I feel like by the end of this treatment, I won't have hands left. However, even so, I will do whatever is necessary to make him healthy again.

Seeing Sufi sick hasn't been easy, but he has undoubtedly received excellent care at the veterinary hospital. The doctor and her assistant were very attentive and treated my kitten in the best possible way. It's a shame, though, that the hospital is private, as there are no public veterinary hospitals in Brazil. My salary is 1800 Reais, and the expenses I had with the consultation, tests, and the first 5 medications amounted to 400 reais. Today, since the test results came out, I will need to buy 4 more medications, this time more targeted medications since the doctor found out what Sufi has. So, this expense will actually be much higher. Because of this, I will have to withdraw all the savings from my savings account to pay the credit card bill at the end of the month. I was saving this money for a trip next year, well, it won't happen this time. My cat's life is more important than any trip I could take.

Now I will have to start saving money for my future projects all over again, but I will only begin doing that after my cat is completely well. Until then, any money I receive from now on will be used to provide him with all the treatment he deserves.

Um dia difícil num hospital veterinário.

Ontem de manhã levei meu gatinho ao hospital pois ele estava sem comer desde segunda-feira. Além disso, ele também estava vomitando e com diarréia, embora esses dois últimos sintomas não fossem frequentes. Sufi é um gato faminto e está sempre procurando alguma coisa pra fazer, então dois dias inteiros vendo ele sempre deitado e sem querer comer nada que eu oferecesse, fez com que eu tivesse certeza que algo errado estava acontecendo.

Ao chegar lá, a doutora examinou todo seu corpinho e disse que ele estava com sinais claros de anemia, e que isso poderia ter sido causado por alguma patologia. A desconfiança dela, é de ele tivesse pego essa doença de alguma caça contaminada que ele matou. Afinal, Sufi é um eximio caçador: Rato, baratas, pequenas lagartos, ele não só caça no meu quintal, como nos quintais da vizinhança. Então fazia sentido pensar que provavelmente em uma de suas empreitadas ele acabou se intoxicando. Essa era realmente a maior possibilidade, visto que a casa do lado da minha está abandonada, então tanto Sufi quanto outros gatos vão pra lá para brincar, caçar e fazer coisas que gatos fazem.

Depois de examina-lo e colher seu sangue, coisa que deu um certo trabalho, ela passou alguns remédios que ele precisaria tomar já para tratar a anemia e fortalece-lo. E bem, eu não sei se você já tentou dar remédio para um gato, mas é com toda certeza, uma das situações mais estressantes que existem. Sufi tem que tomar 5 remédios, e um deles ele precisa tomar de 4 em 4 horas. Minhas mãos e braços estão todos arranhados, pois mesmo estando fraco, Sufi é muito forte.

Além desses 5 remédios, com o resultado do exame, descobri que ele terá que tomar mais 4 remédios, totalizando 9! Sinto que que no final desse tratamento não terei mais mãos. Porém, mesmo assim, farei no necessário pra que ele fique saudável de novo.

Ver Sufi doente não tem sido fácil, mas sem dúvida ele teve um excelente atendimento no hospital veterinário. A doutora e seu assistente eram muito atenciosos e trataram meu gatinho da melhor forma possível. É uma pena porém, que o hospital seja particular, pois não existem hospitais veterinários públicos no Brasil. Meu salário é 1800 Reais, e o gasto que eu tive com a consulta, exames e os primeiros 5 remédios deu 400 reais. Hoje, como o resultado do exame saiu, precisarei comprar mais 4 remédios, dessa vez, remédios mais assertivos, visto que a médica descobriu o que Sufi tem. Então esse gasto na verdade será muito maior. Por esse motivo, terei que sacar todo o hbd que está na poupança pra conseguir pagar a conta do cartão no final do mês. Estava juntando esses hbd pra fazer uma viagem no início do ano que vem, bem, não vai ser dessa vez. A vida do meu gato é mais importante do que qualquer viagem que eu possa fazer.

Agora eu terei que recomeçar a juntar grana para meus projetos futuros outra vez, mas só começarei a fazer isso depois que meu gato estiver 100% bem, até lá, qualquer hbd que eu receber daqui pra frente será pra que eu possa dar todo o tratamento que ele merece ter.
