#TBT | My final university journey: Community Service [ENG | ESP]
Today is #ThrowbackThursday, and today I don't want to remember just one particular day, but rather the last journey I experienced this year (so far) to obtain my university degree in December as a Bachelor of International Studies. The famous and feared (at least for me) Community Service.

Hoy es jueves de TBT, hoy no quiero recordar solo un día en particular, sino, la última travesía que viví este año (hasta ahora) para obtener mi título universitario en diciembre como Lic. Estudios Internacionales. El famoso y temido (al menos para mí), Servicio Comunitario.
The essential requirement to graduate. Don't get me wrong, I really liked the idea of doing my service, but between university and work, I kept putting it off. Then, on two occasions, when I already had a project and was ready to start, for one reason or another, everything fell through. That's how I finished my academic workload and didn't even know where to start.
El requisito indispensable para poder graduarte, ojo, no me malinterpreten, a mí me gustaba mucho la idea de hacer mi servicio, pero entre la uni y el trabajo siempre lo fui postergando, después en dos ocasiones, cuando ya tenía un proyecto y estaba lista para comenzar, por una u otra razón, el todo se caía, así es como había terminado mi carga académica y no sabía ni por dónde empezar.
Over time, I understood that it was meant to be. I managed to do my service in the environmental education projects department of an environmental institute, and I swear I was happy because that's one of the areas I like the most, everything that has to do with the environment, recycling, environmental education, planting trees, etc., etc., etc. Those were tough months. Everything happened very quickly because I had to submit my report in the last week of July, and it was mid-May when my tutor withdrew from the project and I had to find another one. It was crazy.
Con el tiempo entendí que así debió ser, conseguí hacer mi servicio en el departamento de proyectos educativos ambientales de un instituto de Ambiente, y les juro que fui feliz, porque esa es de las ramas que más me gustan, todo lo que tiene que ver con el ambiente, el reciclaje, educación ambiental, plantar árboles etc. etc. etc. Fueron meses duros, todo fue muy rápido porque debía entregar el informe la última semana de julio y eran mediados de mayo cuando mi tutor se retiró del proyecto y tuve que buscar otro, toda una locura.
I will always be grateful to the entire Institute team and, above all, to the Projects team. Each one of them made me feel like I was part of the team from day one. I also learned many valuable things. All the activities were very varied, and I enjoyed it a lot. I went from helping to give talks to elementary school students about energy saving, to going to recycling workshops, to taking tours to see and learn about urban birdlife, not to mention spending every weekend at a nursery, where I learned techniques and skills for collecting, germinating, and planting tree species.
Siempre voy a estar agradecida con todo el equipo del Instituto y sobre todo, con el equipo de Proyectos, cada uno de ellos me hicieron sentir parte desde el día uno, además aprendí muchísimas cosas valiosas, todas eran actividades muy variadas, me lo disfruté un montón, pasé de ayudar a darle charlas a los estudiantes de primaria sobre el ahorro energético, ir a jornadas de reciclaje, hasta hacer recorridos para ver y aprender sobre la avifauna urbana, sin mencionar que pasaba todos los fines de semana en un vivero, donde aprendí técnicas y destrezas para la recolección, germinación y siembra de especies de árboles.
You may think that this has nothing to do with my career, but the truth is that it has everything to do with it, because in order to defend something, you have to know about it. Internationalists play an important role in the fight against climate change. International relations are key to preventing money that could be spent on renewable energy, green cities, and adequate food and water distribution from ending up financing wars between countries. War brings with it the displacement of wildlife, deterioration of flora, soil degradation, increased GHG emissions, and other negative impacts.
Quizás ustedes piensen que no tiene nada que ver con mi carrera, pero la verdad, es que sí, que lo tiene todo, porque para defender algo, tienes que conocerlo. Es importante el papel que juegan los internacionalistas en la lucha contra el cambio climático, las relaciones internacionales son claves para evitar que el dinero que puede ser destinado a en energías renovables, ciudades verdes, una adecuada distribución de los alimentos y del agua, termine financiando guerras entre países. Porque la guerra trae consigo el desplazamiento de la fauna, deterioro de la flora, degradación del suelo, mayor cantidad de emisiones de GEI entre otros impactos negativos.
Yesterday, my tutor told me that she had approved my report and sent it to the faculty department, so... it's finally ready. I just have to wait for my completion letter to be processed, and then the journey will be over. The truth is that I have fond memories of my service. It was 120 incredible hours, filled with nature, people committed to the environment, and a lot of learning.
Ayer mi tutora me dijo que había aprobado mi informe y lo había enviado al departamento de la Facultad, así que… finalmente está listo, solo debo esperar que mi carta de culminación esté procesada, la travesía terminó. La verdad es que recuerdo con mucho cariño mi servicio, fueron 120 horas increíbles, llenas de naturaleza, gente comprometida con el ambiente y mucho aprendizaje.
