Estoy segura de que los lectores de esta comunidad entenderán cuando hablo de una fuerza invisible que me impide pasar por una librería sin querer entrar o saber que hay una feria y no asistir. Es como una necesidad, aunque sea, para mirar ediciones especiales, comparar precios, descubrir nuevos autores, y, por supuesto, tocar ese libro en particular que anhelamos aunque no podamos comprarlo.

I'm sure readers in this community will understand when I talk about an invisible force that keeps me from passing by a bookstore without wanting to go in or knowing there's a fair and not attending. It's like a need, if nothing else, to look at special editions, compare prices, discover new authors, and, of course, touch that particular book we crave even if we can't buy it.

Por eso, cuando mi amiga @iulipetit2711 me preguntó si quería ir a la FILVEN (Feria Internacional del Libro de Venezuela) de este año, obviamente le dije que sí.

So when my friend @iulipetit2711 asked me if I wanted to go to this year's FILVEN (International Book Fair of Venezuela), I obviously said yes.

Al igual que el año pasado, la feria se está realizando en la Galería de Arte Nacional ubicada en Caracas y estará abierta hasta el 13 de este mes, bajo el lema "Leer Humaniza". Esa frase me gustó mucho desde el momento en que la leí, son solo dos palabras que resuenan y te hacen preguntarte si hay algún libro que te haya hecho un poco más empático, más amable, más auténtico y por ende más humano.

just like last year, the fair is being held at the National Art Gallery located in Caracas and will be open until the 13th of this month, under the slogan “Reading Humanizes”, I liked that phrase from the moment I read it, just two words that resonate and make you wonder if there is a book that has made you a little more empathetic, kinder, more authentic and therefore more human.

Y si hablamos de libros... A pesar de que este año hay pocas editoriales, se pueden encontrar libros de todo tipo, clásicos como Crimen y Castigo, el Principito, Harry Potter, Drácula, o libros de historia, crecimiento personal como los de Marian Rojas Estapé y novedades como Alas de Onix de la Saga Empíreo de Rebeca Yarros, libros ilustrados y muchos más.

And if we talk about books... Although this year there are few publishers, you can find books of all kinds, classics like Crime and Punishment, the Little Prince, Harry Potter, Dracula or books of history, personal growth as those of Marian Rojas Estapé and novelties such as Onyx Storm of the Empirean Saga by Rebeca Yarros, illustrated booksand many more.

Un aspecto que realmente no me gustó de la feria, es que muchos de los stands tenían un marcado tinte político, lo cual resultaba un poco incómodo, no quiero entrar en detalles, pues, para nadie es un secreto la situación del país y se supone que esos espacios se convierten en un momento de desahogo y esparcimiento. En estos casos, solo queda prestarle atención y disfrutar de los demás que ofrece la feria.

One aspect that I really did not like about the fair was that many of the stands had a strong political tinge, which was a little uncomfortable, I do not want to go into details, because it is no secret that the situation of the country and these spaces are supposed to become a moment of relief and relaxation. In these cases, the only thing left to do is to pay attention and enjoy the rest of what the fair has to offer.

En cuanto a los precios, pues, rondaban entre los $20 y los $35, claro, también dependía del libro, si eran sagas completas, ediciones especiales, libros con ilustraciones más complejas como cómics, si pueden valer fácilmente más de 50$.

As for prices, well, they ranged between $20 and $35, of course, it also depended on the book, if they were complete sagas, special editions, books with more complex illustrations such as comics, if they can cost more than $50.

Aunque no hay nada mejor que leer en físico, sentir el contacto con las hojas, ese olorcito a libro nuevo, la verdad, es que adquirirlos en ese precio, para muchos venezolanos representa un costo elevado, debido a la constante caída del poder adquisitivo. Con el pasar de los años, comprar libros en físico se ha vuelto más complicado, eso también ha hecho que muchas editoriales y librerías cierren o trabajen como tiendas online, participar en estas ferias les permite mayor visibilidad y posibles futuros clientes.

Although there is nothing better than reading a physical book, feeling the contact with the pages, the smell of a new book, the truth is that acquiring them at that price, for many Venezuelans represents a high cost, due to the constant fall in purchasing power. Over the years, buying physical books has become more complicated, that has also made many publishers and bookstores close or work as online stores, participating in these fairs allows them greater visibility and possible future customers.

Todos los años hay un país invitado, el de este año fue Egipto, su exposición me pareció muy bonita y artística, habían muchos elementos típicos del país: tazas, cofres, pinturas, tejidos, incluso libros y una mini Gran Esfinge de Giza para tomarse fotos.

Every year there is a guest country, this year's was Egypt, I found their exhibition very nice and artistic, there were many typical elements of the country: mugs, chests, paintings, fabrics, even books and a mini Great Sphinx of Giza to take pictures.
