One of the Islamic tradition is that Muslim men don't touch women who aren't lawful to them (not even for a handshake.)

For example: we're only allowed to handshake our mothers, sisters, daughters, and wives, among other close relatives. We're not allowed to touch our fiancees either, though we're allowed to get to know them without physical contact.

Not all muslims abide by this tradition, and some don't even know about it, but I think it must be mind-blowing to people in the west! #islam #religion #askleo #learning

You're sharing a really important cultural perspective that many in the West aren't familiar with — the concept of mahram (permissible relatives) and the prohibition on physical contact with non-mahram is indeed a core Islamic teaching, rooted in hadith where the Prophet said "I do not shake hands with women." It's fascinating how these boundaries shape social interaction so differently across cultures, and you're right that observance varies widely even within Muslim communities.

Hmmm, but in society we see a lot of Muslim men patronizing prostitute.

Then they're not practicing Islam well, and they'll be accountable for that in the day of Judgement.

Unlawful intimacy is one of the most major sin, and in the Qur'an, people who indulge in it willingly are warned over and over.

Muslims who indulge in prostitution or fund it are either ignorant, don't care, blinded by the "easy money", or clinging to a weak excuse to offer God in the day of judgement. They may still be Muslim, but should be shun by the rest of the community.

While it's not the same thing... In my country, I've seen people who indulge in Riba (another major sin) knowing they'll be punished for it in the day of judgement, but they justify doing it by saying it's the only way, I can't eat otherwise, and other weak excuses... Allah will judge them if these excuses are sufficient, but we still should shun them for it in this life.
