Inspired by the Times: Freestyle Collage
I think everyone reading this must know someone who is sick with one virus or another. It seems we left the pandemic behind and opened a Pandora's box of (mostly) respiratory viruses. I'm personally on the tail end of one and though I'm mostly back, there are lingering symptoms.
So, my collage was inspired by recent events not just in my home (we all had something or another), but in homes across the world.
I'm not going to write a long exposition about viruses or anything else now (surprise!). Today I'll let the picture speak for me and all of us.
I borrowed richly from the LIL library in order to express my idea. Pixabay contributors were also very helpful.

The process began with a feeling. I looked for a picture that could capture that sense. Came up with this room from Pixabay:
Mood and setting were established. Now I was ready to tell the story. Here are a few steps that show how I populated the image to create a narrative:
At first I was going to put a row of crows instead of flies in the window, but thought that might be overkill.
I did this collage after having an exchange with @quantumg about how I couldn't do a collage 😄. Thanks, @quantumg. That conversation spurred me.
The LMAC Collage Contest, and LIL
The contest has been going on for years, and I've been with it from almost the start. The community began with a small group of people who liked to make collages. The prizes were just a bonus. Today we award 15 prizes every week, but a lot of participants in the community don't compete for those. These participants love to make collages. I am among those.
If you haven't tried your hand at collage making, start. It's a lot of fun. As for the LIL library, this grew out of a need for free images. Hive has so many wonderful photographers and artists who could contribute to the LIL project. To read more about LIL (how to contribute and how to use), refer to this blog.
Thank you for reading my blog. Our contest resumes this coming Thursday, but feel free to create a collage before then.
Everyone, be well and peaceful.
Ha! you did not forget the flies 😂😂😂👍 awesome and moody result.
😅 Of course not. An essential plot element :)
I'm very sorry your son is ill and happy he is recovering quickly. It does seem people are sick everywhere. Family members help out and then we they get sick we help them ♥️
Thanks for the comment. I hope good health returns to everyone in your home.
Gracias, mucha salud para usted y su familia 🙏🙏
I actually love the way the picture fits a virus scene
That’s a fantastic job
Keep it up!
Thank you!
Nice work @agmoore! Really evocative :) "Just now I am going through a fierce flu and I feel like I look like the woman in your collage :))))"
Thanks for sharing!
Oh no! Poor @esthersanchez. I'm very sorry you are battling a fierce flu. What a year we're having.
😯 I hope this passes quickly.
Oh, thank you for your good wishes. I hope, like you, that those of us who find ourselves in this situation get out of it soon. A big hug @agmoore!

Nice work
I love your collage
I must say, I expected the patient to at least leap from the bed, bash the mouse with the broom and jump back into bed again. Am I asking too much?:)
😂
Why didn't I think of that ????
I felt identified as soon as I open the post, haha.
Same here. My knees and back still hurt a little.
The crow on the pitcher reminds me of an Aesop's fable, but it also reminds me of that famous photo of the vulture looking at the child. It's a bit creepy, but at the same time, the room is charming, the little friend--a hamster?--is cute, and the girl is sadly funny. Then all in all, the collage transmits a warm feeling.
Someday I will have the patience and intelligence to learn how to make collages like you guys.
I'm sorry you are still feeling the effects, but at least we're on the way up. Everyone on the LMAC team was sick (we live in different parts of the world!), and everyone I think on the Inkwell team was sick (again, different parts of the world). Illness this season seems inescapable, but at least we all got better.
Thank you. I was feeling warmth, gratitude for those who helped me when I was really sick. And yet, couldn't do kitsch. The crow and the flies saved the picture from that.
I'm such a poor artist. I don't even try to do what others in the community do. Simple narrative pieces such as this one are my highest ambition 😇
Thanks for the insight, dear @marlyncabrera. I wish you, and all of us, a peaceful 2024
My son and his girlfriend were sick until last week, and they live in a different country. My good friend in Germany is also sick. All better now. A mad virus for a mad world and its mad scientists.
Now I'm laughing about those flies, haha. I think it was genius 😂 Better than a row of crows. One crow is enough for an omen and to bring news from the other side.
Of course you're an artist ❤️
💐
It is true--we are all artists. Thank you dear @marlyncabrera
The increase in daily new cases and hospitalizations for COVID is felt sharply in my state. Still some won't protect themselves when around others, especially seniors like myself with underlying conditions.
Thanks for sharing. Have a a good rest of your week.

I didn't realize hospitalizations for COVID were increasing, but I know in my area other viruses are putting people in the hospital.
Personally, I'm wearing a mask around everyone but my husband. I don't think I'd survive another bout--two viruses since December. It really wipes me out.
I hope you stay well. Stay away from people. If they don't mask up, you should. A good mask.
Thanks for the visit and comment.

Nice! Looks like you had a little fun bringing this story to fruition. You are pretty good at melding the additional elements into the existing pictorial backdrop. They look like they belonged from the start! Feeling ill truly sucks. Touch wood I have escaped every virus this winter so far. And I am praying it stays that way. I hope you are back to best soon, my lovely !LUV !ALIVE !Hug

Thank you. Yes, I did have fun. For a while, I was too sick even to make a collage. This was my first step out😇 Now I'm almost 100%, but I think it's a nasty stubborn bug that will hold on as long as it can😂
Amazing that you didn't catch anything. Everybody seems to be ill with something. What a winter.
I appreciate the visit and the generous assessment of my collage efforts. Stay well!!
It seems perhaps this is our swings and roundabouts season 🙏. Last year, both hubby and I were so ill from Christmas day through to New Year. I barely left my bed. Hubby, I later discovered, had retired to the futon in the Conservatory and spent a few days holed up there. Our kids, 9 and 11 at the time, pretty much fended for themselves and did most of Christmas alone 😔 This season, we have all been relatively well. Youngest had a heavy cold for about a week, but everyone else has been just fine. We are so grateful 🙏💗
