A Quiet Afternoon: My Collage for LMAC #185

avatar
(Edited)

This collage was crafted from the template for LMAC round #185. I started the picture several days ago but was unable to finish and post on schedule. I put in a lot of time and effort so I decided to post it today, even though LMAC Round #186 starts today. Tune in for my response to the new template!

When I looked at @shaka's template photo this week, my first impression was one of quiet.

Instead of graffiti, I saw timeless sands, and elements of Moorish architecture.

The Alhambra

The Alhambra was built between 1238 and 1358, in Granada, Spain. The complex is considered one of the most outstanding examples of Moorish architecture from that time (Moorish rule of the Iberian Peninsula). The Alhambra was both a fortress and a palace. The tableau in my first collage, Timeless, reflects my emotional response to @shaka's template.

After I finished that quite detailed scene, which became a kind of story for me, I decided to animate separate parts of the setting. This project would have used too much memory (and therefore I would not have been able to upload) to animate the whole scene at once. Plus, the collage would have been so large I would have lost detail.

  • Collage #2: The desert. Sand accumulates. The forces of nature proceed, impervious to human design. The attendant with the broom calmly sweeps away the sand as it appears, inevitably, on the tile plaza in front of the domed monument.

  • Collage #3: Resistance. There will always be obstacles, resistance to human design. The wind (in the tree) continues. The animal (camel) has its own mind. We persist in the tug of war between our will and the world we live in.

Making the Primary Collage

I used architectural features from @shaka's impressive template. I enhanced the base structure with windows that characterize Moorish architecture (windows taken from @shaka's template). The same is true for the roof peaks.

Numerous elements in the base collage were borrowed from contributors to the LMAC Image Library, LIL.

I thank the following LIL contributors:

I also borrowed from my own contributions:

In addition to the LIL contributions, there were several images borrowed from Pixabay--I thank these contributors

Here is a process GIF which shows some of the different stages I went though in making the primary collage:

LMAC and LIL

As always, the LMAC Gallery of Images, LIL provided me with essential elements for my collage. Anyone on Hive can contribute to the library and everyone can borrow from it. Learn about the procedure here.

We have had some spectacular contests with handsome prizes in the last few week. As I mentioned already, the contest starts anew today. Check out the LMAC community blog to have a look. Perhaps you will be inspired to make a collage and join in the fun. As @shaka says, everyone is an artist. I don't enter the contest, but make a collage just about every week. I can't resist.

Thank you for reading. Peace and health to all.

You are no doubt a wonderful collage maker, sadly when ever i tried to make collage, i stuck in the start and my mind gets empty, it require ideas and invention from your mind to create a collage.

i stuck in the start and my mind gets empty

One of the best remedies for that is to look at the work of masters. When I'm stuck I go to Wikimedia Commons and look at work from artists I admire. These can be from any period, and in any style. It's the art that is stimulating.

Please try that. I think you'll find it helps. @shaka, who founded LMAC and who leads it, said years ago that everyone is an artist. He means that. Each of us has a creative well (all humans do) that we can tap. The more we tap it, the more it gives us.

I hope to see a collage from you some day.

Hello @nbarrios67. I appreciate that comment very much. We all work hard on our collages and they represent a piece of us. So glad when that works.

Take care.

Hello my dear friend, @redheadpei. Not talent, though I appreciate that assessment. It's like knitting for me, or a meditation. I spend my time looking at the piece and putting in details. Quite relaxing.

We are not settled in a new home. I'm hoping we both live long enough😂 to complete this process. Inspections and closings and heavens knows what else. The process swallows one 😁

Take care, and thanks for stopping by.

It takes a lot of effort to make such things and we see that all these pictures are looking very beautiful and special.

El resultado es hermoso y la composición tiene tu firma. Me gusta la forma en que siempre tus planos parecen amplios y, sin embargo, uno puede regodearse en el detalle.
Me gustaron particularmente los mosaicos.
Un abrazo enorme.

Thank you my friend, @adncabrera. Details require focus, and that's the relaxing part for me. Making a collage is so much like writing a story. We have the concept and then we have to plot the piece so it communicates our intention to the reader.

I did enjoy adding the mosaic! I'm glad you noticed that.

A great hug back. Have fun this week on the jury. So nice to have you.

I see you had quite a bit of fun creating several collages, I love the life you bring to them with the movements you put into them. I'm usually always late for compliments on your work!
Hope all is going well at your house my friend! Hugs! 🤗

Wonderful to see you here, my friend @mballesteros. I just looked at your birthday post. What a treat, for you and for us on Hive.

Thank you for your kind words. The collage for me is a way to escape. It used to bring me stress when I worried about outcome. Now I care about outcome but mostly get lost in the process.

Have the most wonderful weekend, and Happy, Happy Birthday!
