The Day I Met Favour
There was a particular day I’ll never forget. I had traveled to a certain place with a friend, expecting to meet someone important. We arrived full of hope, but almost immediately, things went wrong. The person we came to see was nowhere to be found, and when we tried to call them, their phone just wouldn’t connect. We called again and again, hoping it was just bad network, but after many tries, it was clear — we were stuck.
I didn’t know a single soul in that area, and my friend couldn’t offer any solution for where we could stay. The hours ticked by, and the reality of our situation began to sink in: we were stranded in an unfamiliar place with no plan, no shelter, and no idea what to do next.
That’s when something remarkable happened.
A young man noticed us standing there, clearly looking lost and unsure. He walked over and asked, “Are you looking for someone?” We explained the whole story — we had come to see someone, but they weren’t answering their phone.
He listened patiently and then, without hesitation, said something that left me stunned:
“This place isn’t really safe for you to stay outside at night. If you don’t mind, you can spend the night at my place, and sort things out tomorrow morning.”
His name was Favour.
I remember thinking, Who does this? He didn’t know us at all — and there were three of us, all ladies — yet he was willing to open his home to complete strangers. It wasn’t just kindness; it was bravery.
We politely refused at first, saying we’d wait a little longer. He nodded, but told us to call him if we changed our minds. Then he walked off.
A short while later, Favour returned — not with more questions, but with food. He had gone to buy noodles and took the time to cook for us. He smiled and said, “You’ve been standing here for hours, you must be hungry.”
I was shocked again. Here was someone who had no obligation to us, going out of his way not only to offer shelter, but also to feed us. At first, I hesitated to eat — part of me thought, This is too good to be true. But then I realized how genuine his actions were. I took my first bite, and it was the best noodles I had ever tasted.
He even offered for us to freshen up. We declined, deciding to just stay put until morning. We eventually accepted his offer of shelter, and that night, we rested peacefully under his roof.
The next morning, Favour got ready for school. Before leaving, he wished us well and told us to take care of ourselves. We all thanked him deeply, and as we walked away, we promised to surprise him one day to show our appreciation.
It’s been a long time since that day. My friends may have forgotten that promise, but I never have. Acts of kindness like that are rare, and they stay with you forever.
Favour, if you ever see this — thank you. You didn’t just give us food and a place to stay. You reminded me that there are still people in this world who will go out of their way to help strangers. You are truly one of a kind, and you are blessed.
