TAX: My Nation's Present Hot Cake

Talking about tax rate or return in a country like mine is like a Yoruba adage that says "o so sini lenu o fiyo si" meaning it is kind of unspeakable and it's actually confusing on how to address it. Because how can we talk fluently about paying tax in a country where infrastructures are nothing to write home about, there is no standard healthcare for the citizens, rate of poverty is nothing to write about and I think we hold a reputable position in the list of the poorest country in Africa.

Hearing about all these developed countries where even the influentials of my dear country run to for healthcare or even vacation, they pay tax but truly we see the worth of them paying tax unlike here where the natural resources we have and the general resources of the nation is even mismanaged. So how do we trust these same set of people with tax returns. More fact now even lies on the fact that the rate of poverty is much and I think average citizens barely understands how and how this tax whole thing will be done.

I remember going to market two days ago, I wanted to buy 1,500 vegetables and I had to make transfer since I had no cash with me and shortly after I sent it, the vendor snapped in and said "if you don't add description, forget it that you sent money to me o" and I was like what are you telling me, (unknown other that initially before tax declaration I have always been writing descriptions on my transactions) you should have been telling me before I sent it now blablabla....

That is what the country has turned into now and everyone with the shouts of description here and there even when the tax officials had come out publicly to say that tax reform doesn't have to do with your description of I bought fish or I bought groundnut but you will declare your income yourself.

To me, I feel like they know those they are targeting but it's just that we are in a country with no standard laws coupled with gluttonic officials who wouldn't carry out their work diligently of which all these are summarily referred to as failed system.
Otherwise, then there would be a drastic change in the way our politicians and wealthy personalities live unnecessary extravagant lives with unused vehicles and houses around which they can't try abroad.

So I think in my country right now, the most affected people are hiding behind the shadow of the less affected people to make a voice about the tax issue.

However, our worries are valid cos as a low income citizen, what if at the end of the day, we're been taxed at the rate we're not supposed to be taxed for? Is there really a valid system in place to be able to do this rightly without adding to the sour of poverty on the citizens body?
All these questions remains unanswered until 1,2,3.....n start getting debited for tax then we will know whatsup.

I'll be dropping my 🖊️ here on SciFi Multiverse Prompt

Thanks for reading through 🤗

the more you think about it? the more angry you get..........

this country is just something else...whatever they want to do let them do, nothing we do as citizens ever count, worst is election

We never can tell sha.... What if we really go out for election to cast our votes? What if we had spoken up when the tax bill was passed before it was eventually made as a law?
There's a possibility there might be a slight difference if at all

While most people are angry about this new tax law, it's surprising I'm not moved about it.
Probably because I'm already use to paying tax or so.

Exactly the point from what he said.... So why are people still clamouring on description

And for the description, I guess that is a normal thing we should be doing because a space for that has been created before this tax issue came up

Shey you get! There are some things that normally we supposed dey do but we won't do until we are enforced to. Just like how we would still dump a biscuit nylon on the floor in a place where a waste bin has been placed to dump anything dumpable

Seriously, we can't trust the government, this issue of tax is another way to just drain the average man again

Another angle too that actually attract fear from the minds of the citizens cos we know our leaders in the day so we don't need to on a Torchlight to recognize them in the dark

The most pity thing is the fact that it is the government that will actually eat up those tax revenue

Exactly the Fear of the citizens of which we're right to think that way cos of who they are

Our worries are certainly valid. There's a huge concern because people are confused, this isn't clear. And why tax people when you don't even give value for the tax? There's a lot to say on this but like you mentioned, it's confusing how to address this.

Coupled with the fact that the seen citizens whose faces are out there to speak are only making this a content rather than being a voice on behalf of those behind

Honestly speaking, the country is focusing on other things, instead of the problem itself...
