My Shelter Being A Paradise Isn't A Crime
I have always thought Lagos, Nigeria is the only location with the worst house rent issues until I moved to Ibadan in Oyo state, Nigeria. Elemefieleme!
My blood would always boil, talking about house rent issues that people face in the hands of the so called house agents and house owners known as landlord or landlady.
I wish there is another name meant for them since the Land from their title as landlord or landlady makes them feel like they actually owns the land but forgot that part from the scripture that says "the land is of the Lord and the fullness therein."
We all know that every house owners built their houses, no matter how bad it looks either completed or not completed in sweats and with their hard earned money because I can testify to that too but this doesn't make us life takers for to-be tenants.
Worst part is that house agents would now even go as far as getting almost 50% of the actual house rent as if they were part of the labourers carrying the blocks and cements when the building was still in progress.
Leaving that side so that I don't get to raise my HP sorry my BP, me hoping to get an apartment like this, the most important and first thing I would ensure to do is not getting an apartment in dry season because it's so sure I would suffer it during rainy season. I'm talking out of experience so I know what I'm saying.
Like some apartments will be so beautiful with shining POP and all rooms suited with a hundred percent kitchen and rooms furnished and you will be so happy that you had just rented a cool apartment not until the rainy season arrives and you get to know that you had just rented a basket apartment. Some may even be like open heavens of the showers of blessings.
So the number one measure I would ensure to put in place when renting an apartment is renting during rainy season to know how the road to the house is (maybe floody or good) and the house itself.
The other few things I would ensure to look out for is firstly, the apartment and environment neatness because some apartments will be repainted on the outside but the inside is just as terrible as something one can say. Most house rents are raised in an unreasonable manner just because of the location they are but sincerely, they are not worth the price when you inspect them (that reminds me of the inspection fee those agents takes when you want to inspect an apartment. Inspection fee like as if you want to obtain and pay for WAEC and NECO registration).
The second thing I would also look out for is if there is water running in the Apartment. Previously, in my course of looking for apartment, I go to know the funniest thing I've never heard of in my life.
Saying that you rented a room self contained apartment or bedroom flat doesn't guarantee that there's a running water into the apartment because it might be a well water that the landlord still has in place OR just like one of the apartments I lived in on the Island in Lagos, that you have to get a water tank yourself as the tenant, run it with the service of a plumber so that when you buy water from the water tankers, it runs into your flat (So annoying).
And who would actually live peacefully and enjoyably without water? For me, I can't so I wouldn't want to enter such a trap again.
The last but not the least I would look out for is good light in the area. If not 24, 20 hours but at least 10 hours daily but an apartment located in a street where there's no electricity or it is bad, I won't dare use my money to buy what will kill me because in as much as my gadgets may last for hours before they go off when they are fully charged, there's always this inner peace and joy especially to do things that I'm meant to do whenever there's light.
There's this good aura flowing around when everywhere is light up and when the light is off, the whole energy drops from 100 to -0.00 like a thick soup throwing tantrums while on fire but got calmed as soon as the fire beneath is off.
Lastly, I wouldn't wanna live with a co-tenant that would take sleep from my eyes or make me feel unsafe in my own apartment so it will just be great that all house owners and agents get to screen whoever they wants to give their apartments to and not just rent it out to anyone because they want to get money.
