Life And Pain

A child I was, filled with nothing but pure innocence
All I could see was the sunny side of life
I wake up with the whims of a child and answer to my childly demands
“I’m hungry”, “I want this’’, ‘’I wanna play”, “I need a new toy’’
On and on, I went on
With less care and innocent to what really was out there

One day I was a child no more, an adult I became
Exposed to the realities of the real world
There and then, I understood life wasn’t only on the sunny side
Life was filled with shades of grey and black

I try to climb the ladder of life, wishing for a straight path
But no!
I walk on embers and thorns only to meet pain
I open my arms for an embrace, only to be met with a slap in my face
I give my heart out, only for it to be trampled upon
I give friendship and get hostility as payback
My heart is crashed, the pain in my chest consuming my being and crippling me

Now my eyes are opened
I pile the pain up and make stepping blocks from it
Where there are embers, I now use the blocks
Where there are thorns, I still use the blocks

It’s life, it is pain
But the pain doesn’t break me, it makes me stronger
By this, the path before me is no more a challenge
