Being The Voice...Lessons From My Professional Journey

avatar

On and on we go, 2023 is almost ended and @hiveghana has kept us active all year long; keeping us united with its weekly prompt. Hats of to the community and it's entire members.

It is truly amazing how we imagined what we would want to be and where we want to be as we advance in life, and where most of us are. (Smiles). Yes!, a lot got to follow the career path they wanted and had it, some arrived at the profession the wished to have and some also took a detour in career path.

Talking about detours, I took a swift turn to a different path in career myself. Well, it wasn't planned but I landed myself in it and , I must say, I am actually being on top of my game with my current line of work.

**Lessons from my current profession *

Being the voice of the customer:
Ever heard the saying, "the customer is always right?". Well I do not wholly believe in that but I believe in the customer having a voice which needs to be heard. As a customer service representative, I have learnt to put myself in the customers shoes, by being empathetic. That way, I understand them better.
Sometimes the company may not be at fault, the only thing needed is better communication and giving the customer a listening ear to solve problems.

Adjustment: my company has over 100s of staff with different backgrounds and cultural diversity, both local and international. Meaning that, I get to relate with each person within my immediate circle and beyond , by learning to adapt to common system suitable for all.

People management
I deal with different types of people on almost on a daily basis. The irate kind, the I'm -not -ready-to listen to you kind, the gentle kind, the friendly kind, the I-know - it -all kind, and all the kinds. (Laughs).

Each individual comes with a different temperament and vibe. Although similar approach is used for all, I have been able to learn to twist the required approach to suit each individual's taste. I hardly escalate issues to my supervisor, because I settle most in the best professional way I can.

*Improvement in my communication skills Talk is easy but also very complicated. Words already uttered can either make matters worse or bring peace. Also, there is a vast difference between communicating on a normal ground and being professional and intentional at best, about it. I have learnt that with my current profession.

I have come to agree that, one is not supposed to limit himself or herself to one professional basket. Learn to explore and grow. We may have chosen a career path at the budding stage of our adulthood.

Some got there and got what they intended for, and some of us took detours. Regardless of where you end up being at, be the very best version of yourself and deliver.

I wish I learnt this sooner, I wouldn't have brood so much some time back.
