Procrastination Thief Of Time || Wk 15 ||
Procrastination is a very popular word in our world or society, and many are guilty of this word. Most of the time, it is inconvenient to carry out that task at that particular time.
It is a habit that almost everyone combats or turns into a tug-of-war, which has led to missed opportunities, mounting stress, and nagging.
Once upon a time, I grappled with procrastination. I had the opportunity to learn a particular course online while I was acting as a salesperson, and I had all the resources required, such as a network, laptop, financial aid, and writing material.
At first, I began the cause and started learning, but the further I went, the harder it became. I didn't have anyone to put me through learning on my own online. I got distracted with my main work, and just like that, I slightly abandoned it. I was getting bothered because I needed that knowledge to transition into a better place.
However, I kept telling myself I would do it. I would even go home with the office laptop so that I could use my free time to learn, but I ended up doing nothing, it kept on going like that, I promised myself I would do it, but I'm just doing it for knowledge acquisition, so I have all the time to do it, and I will do it when it is convenient for me. Trust me when I say the phrase "When is Convenient" is very dangerous; you can never get that convenient time.
Further, I got a job opportunity that required the course I was learning, and then it was done on me that I killed the opportunity, it was too late for me to start from where I stopped because the skill was needed at that time. That was how I lost that opportunity. I felt so bittered and angry at myself that I ended up settling for less, and I learned that the hard way.
How I Keep Myself From Becoming a Procrastinator
Several proverbs touch on the consequences of procrastination, such as:
"A stitch in time saves nine."
"Make hay while the sun shines."
"Time and tide wait for no man."
"The early bird catches the worm."
"Don't put off until tomorrow what you can do today."
"Procrastination is the thief of time."
The above proverbs have helped and saved me from that deadly word called procrastination. helped shape my life, what I did was I wrote those words out and pasted them in an open space in my room where I get to be reminded every day, and I can say that the approach worked whenever I want to procrastinate, those proverbs ring a bell in my head,
Another thing I put in place is prioritization, but when I start my day, I write out all I need to do for the day and prioritize the important ones at the top. I keep track of my progress, and I make sure I don't carry over the work for today for the next day.
