Breast and Uterine Cancer are not associated together, but there is a chance of having the other if you have one. This is due to shared risk factors such as hormone levels and lifestyle.
Breast cancer is cancer that forms in the cells of the breasts; it is the most common cancer diagnosed in women, while uterine cancer, also called endometrial cancer, is the most common cancer occurring within the female reproductive system. Uterine cancer begins when healthy cells in the uterus change and grow out of control, forming a mass called a tumor. A tumor can be cancerous
What are the self-care measures that you are taking to ensure that your health is at its optimal level?
My self-care measures start with identifying the factors that may raise the risk of developing uterine and breast cancer, which are as follows:
Obesity: Fatty tissue in people who are overweight produces additional estrogen, a sex hormone that can increase the risk of uterine and breast cancer. This risk increases with an increase in body mass index (BMI).
Knowing that obesity tends to cause breast and uterine cancer, I went for a medical check to see if there is a tendency I have or will have, but it is cool that my cholesterol level is okay, so number risk is checked for me.
Genetics: Uterine and breast cancer may run in families where colon cancer is hereditary. People in families with Lynch syndrome, also called hereditary non-polyposis colorectal cancer (HNPCC), have a higher risk for uterine cancer.
Having come across this, I will go for a test to check my genetics to see if there are any hereditary traits that might lead to any of this cancer.
Diet/nutrition: Eating foods high in animal fat may increase the risk of uterine cancer.
I take my nutrition very seriously and watch what I eat to see what foods are beneficial to my system, the kind of supplement that works for me, fiber, and the like. exercise is not excluded; it will also aid my diet and my body
Hair straightening products: People who have used hair straightening products, also called relaxers, may be at increased risk of developing uterine cancer. Research has shown this risk may be higher for people who use these products frequently.
When I came across this, I was shocked. I never knew the damage I had been putting on myself, so I had to cut my hair low and start it fresh again without using any straightening products. It was not easy, but I just had to put measures in place to prevent any chance of cancer.
Drinking alcohol: Drinking alcohol increases the risk of breast cancer.
I pass this risk factor because I don't take alcohol, which I feel is too hard and is not fun for me.
How often do you get your medical checkup done?
Every four months, I go to the clinic for a checkup. The fee is high, but I usually save towards it. I meet with a gynecologist to explain the changes I felt within the past four months, and they run a check on me, give me some medical advice, and follow all instructions until my next meeting.
What are the day-to-day, self-care routines you follow?
I don't really do much, but whenever I wake up, I massage my breasts. I feel it very well in order to feel anything strange, and I also massage my abdominal part. So basically, that is all I do on a daily basis.
